Let me give you my take on "respect"

I am seeing a lot of posts on the frustration of Rams fans at being told their "3-0 start is a fluke" and "the teams that they've beaten aren't very good".

I'm a Colts fan. I know exactly how you feel. When Bill Polian chose Edgarrin James over Ricky Williams *and* Marshall Faulk, we got ripped to pieces by the media. We revamped our defense by adding people and the talk was, well, they might be better next year, they'll compete for the playoffs later etc etc.

Then we beat Buffalo 31-14 the first week, sacking Flutie five times. We were the talk of the town. Then we blew a 21 point lead against New England and the talk was "same old Colts".

Let me make an even more drastic example: THE COLTS WERE ***ONE PLAY*** FROM GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL IN 1995!!!!!! And the following year they beat Arizona, the Jets (they sucked back then), the Dolphins (they sucked back then too), and then overcame a 21-3 deficit to stun the defending world-champion Cowboys IN DALLAS.

At that point, we were the talk of the world, superbowl contenders, Harbaugh was interviewed everywhere, you name it.

Well, we proceeded to go 5-7 the rest of the year, squeak into the playoffs and get crushed 42-14, make some horrendous personnell decisions, and start off the next year 0-10. Well, guess what. By the time we were 0-3 everybody had forgotten that we were a play from the big dance 2 years prior and were a playoff team the previous year. Same old Colts. Laughing stock of the league.

Bottom line: YOU HAVE TO BE A CONSISTENT WINNER OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME TO GET CONSISTENT SUPPORT FROM THE BRAINLESS BUFFOONS IN THE MEDIA. Most of those guys don't know a football from the stuff they leave in the toilet. It makes me sick to think how much money those guys make for regurgitating obvious generalities.

Forget about the niners next week. Even if you guys go 12-4 and get to the NFC championship, if you start out 0-3 or 2-4 next year everyone will have forgotten about you. You gotta have 5 or 10 straight 9 or 10-win seasons to be noticed.
