Ram 23 remembers the formation of the HERD identity:

It seems a little hard to believe really, more then a year has gone by since I wandered over here from the PostNet, TSN and a few other RAM message boards.

I've been using the net now for a little over two years and have come to love and enjoy this all as family. Never have I had this many great and dedicated RAM fans to associate with. The knowledge and awareness of THE HERD is amazing.

Not being much of a traveler, I soon found out there wasn't much need to roam around any longer. At that time all of us here were using NFLfans.com, the atmosphere was good and the fans were all starting to grow on each other.

Most of the regular fans that are here now or at least the vast majority of them that seem to hang here were posting at the PostNet board at one time or another and when an unpopular, very surprising, unknown and shocking board format change was dumped on all the RAM fans....  the move was on.

Since the big move over here, Rivals.com has now become the provider of the featured NFL Team message boards... a fan can have most of their football needs met and never leave the Rivals system. Fans have been given the opportunity to be part of creating board features, imputing as to the needs of posters and all around having a say in regards to how their home is operated. It seems we have been given a great place to do our thang.

For me, the greatest thing that has happened during this time period besides the association with the greatest football fans in the NFL was the creation of THE HERD. I tried for ten years to bring this fan identity to the attention of someone that could promote it and move it in a positive way for what I thought was a natural. Once I got to this huge pasture of RAM fans, I decided it was now or never.

Upon meeting ScRAM and talking with him regarding this situation, I ran a poll for almost a week to see if the majority of the posters would like to be known as THE HERD. The majority said yes and the board became The Home of the THE HERD of loyal RAM fans. Needless to say, this has been a great time in my life to have this fan identity become part of the atmosphere I love so much, RAM fandom.

Soon after all this took place, I became a RAMS Board Co-Admin. and began a different type of involvement. Not only having the urge to be a fan, post and communicate with the fans, now I had duties as well. Monitoring the board for problems, watching for anything and everything that would cause disruption in the flow of RAM football content.

It has been great working with the Admin Team trying to provide a cool atmosphere for the fans and always trying to have an open and fair approach to our forum.

The two HERD boards are great fun, the public board is the busiest board in the Rivals system and keeps us jumpin'. The Registered board is for serious content with very low tolerance for intrusion and flaming.

The ideal situation and a hope for me personally would be to have one board, one Registered board that met everyone's needs and wants. That isn't possible it seems, but with our present setup we at least have a choice, its up to each fan to decide what their desire is.

I hope we continue to improve as fans and as boards, looking for the best of attitudes, reaching out to those that can't grasp discipline as easy as others, making the thrill of fandom better then it already is.
