Here's the gist of what he reported:

1. On second week bye. Good chance to get Dexter McCleon healthy. Work on some things that need improvement. Atlanta will be a tough game. No telling how Chandler will feel. As of yesterday, Reeves says he's doubtful for Monday night's game against Dallas. We've got to feel good about our chances.

2. Areas of improvement. Running game. Two waves. One: the Ravens were geared up to stop Faulk [MJR: no doubt given his performance as a Colt last year against them. 17 carries for 192 yds., 1TD; 7 receptions, 37 yds. 1TD]. Two: It was a tough mental adjustment for the offensive line since they were throwing a lot to focus on the run. Run blocking is just "getting after it." They need to get tougher. It's just a matter of time before we see Cameron Spikes is in there. He's mean and tough.

3. Letting Grasmanis go. Howard: "I don't know" Charlie Armey's philosophy is to use the bottom of the roster and your practice squad to continuously improve the roster. The guy they picked up (Hobgood-Chittick) earned a roster spot w/ the NY Giants.

4. Caller:. What about Ryan McNeil against the Steelers? Howard: he isn't starting. He comes in on dime defenses. He got completely burned by the Steelers on one play and was getting yelled at by a teammate about what he should have done on the play.

Same caller. Who calls the defensive plays on the field? Plays are called from the sideline and adjustments are perhaps made by Mike Jones. Maybe Fletcher. Not sure. (MJR: I think it's Fletcher's job). Clemons is in on the nickel (Collins goes out.)

5. Former Rams update. Greg Hill 7 rushes for 24 yds. Banks, not dressed. LP: 3 carries for 8 yds. and Eddie Kennison: 2 receptions for 11 yds.

6.Hodgins has good potential. Don't judge him by the fumbles in the Oakland preseason game. If it becomes a pattern then deal with it. He blocks well and catches well. He's bigger, stronger, and a better blocker. They also brought back Chad Levitt who can be either a HB or FB.

7. Caller:  What about the Seahawks' high-flying offense? Holmgren? Galloway? Howard. Answering the Galloway questions answers the Holmgren question. They were counting on him and he hasn't reported. Sean Dawkins is a no. 2 receiver at best. Mike Pritchard is hurt. Kitna is a young QB. Holmgren just doesn't have the players.

8. Detroit game vs. Seahawks. Ron Rivers and Schlessenger are solid. They can give you lots of different looks on offense.

On Barry Sanders' return to football. Impossible this year. There's no way they can trade Barry Sanders this year. If he returns the signing bonus, the Lions get a credit against the cap next year, not this.

9. Tennessee Titans. McNair is being allowed to open up the offense. Coaches are using his arm instead of Eddie George. George only 42 yds. Good receiving corps. Thigpen, etc.

10. Falcons will not be able to gear up to stop our running game on defense because of our passing efficiency with Bruce, Holt, Hakim, and most notably, now Warner.

11. Caller: What's going on in Seattle with Ricky Waters and Ahman Green? Green fumbles a lot but has more speed. Detroit was not concerned about Kitna's passing. Changes in the defensive lines, adjustments.

12. Caller: Concerned about games against Detroit and Tennessee. Probably wont have Eddie George having such a bad day against us as he did against Cincinnati.

Howard. (The sage thing again.) The thing about voodoo is that you can't overuse it. Stay away from it. The sage burning thing has a soothing calming effect. Let's be honest, the Rams' defense played well but again it was the Ravens.
