Here's how he "discovered" Kurt... He knew about him when he was in Division II and when he was in camp with the Pack. Armey is good friends with the coach of the Barnstormers, who praised him. He and Vermeil decided to put him in Amsterdam and see what he could do. They already knew he was "a quick study, that he had a very strong arm, and that he was very accurate."

The quarterback position, "is not just a strong arm, but it is also the ability to manage the team, handling the pressure and keeping the team focussed, dealing with the pass rush..." etc. "Those are the intangibles that make John Elway irreplaceable in Denver."

Aside from Kurt Warner, he was most pleased with Grant Wistrom last Sunday. "He has matured alot and he plays with very good leverage. He did a great job against Ogden."

Also Tom Nutten. Last year he wore down after playing in Canada, then going straight to the world league and then to the Rams. this year he's healthy and fresh and Charley thinks he played well Sunday.

He talked about Gaylon Hyder. "We never dreamed he'd beat out Corey Sears when we brought him in." But Armey claims that he had already beaten out Sears for the 4th DT position prior to the final preseason game. He added "He's a very big man, he should really improve and get stronger with a whole year of weight training in our program."

He was sort of upset watching the tapes of Sunday's game with the coaches due to the lack of running game. The coaches did not like the push off the line of scrimmage by the five up front, but there were other plays when just a hand here or there tripped up Faulk, and there were also "other missed assignments."

He said Vermeil has done a great job this year turning around "the internal image of the team" so that they would expect to win.
