The following Rams players will be free agents after the current season. (Names in upper case are 30 years old or older.) What follows each name is my own comments, analysis, ideas.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS:

* Allen, Taje
(Offer min. tag *approx. $429,000*, can be the 4th CB next year. Has a 5th  round compensation if signed by another team.)

* Clemons, Charlie
(Offer min. tag, Nice to have but his role in this D can be replaced by L. Little. No compensation if signed.)

* Jenkins, Billy
(Offer min. tag. Another nice to have but he can be replaced by Bush or Coady. No compensation if signed.)

* McCleon, Dexter

(Not so sure he should be on this list, most 2nd round picks get a four year  deals. If true, I would try to sign him to a multi-year deal. At the min. I would would put the first round compensation tag on him, approx. $800,000+  or maybe even a first and second round compensation tag, approx. 1.2+  million. The Rams will need him if the can't sign Lyght.)

* Nutten, Tom
(Some teams might go after him because he doesn't have any compensation if  the Rams offer the min. The Rams must consider this and should sign him to maybe the first round tag compensation. One reason is players like Nutten  and Mike Gruttadauria become more valuable on the market when the team wins  a lot of games. See any Bronco linemen in the last couple years. By signing  Nutten, losing Mike G. would not hurt the Rams because the Rams could slide Tom over the Center and fight it out with Tucker, and start Spikes at LG.)

* Tucker, Ryan
(See above, except Ryan has a 4th round compensation.Because he's not a starter, you might get away with a min. offer.)

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS:

* Carpenter, Ron
(Let him test the market.)

* Conwell, Ernie
(Ernie's value may have dropped because of his injury. The Rams do need his  blocking. Lucky TE don't cost as much in the FA market and the Rams might  be able to get Conwell at a good price because of the injury. Ernie is almost  a borderline NICE to HAVE, but the Rams would be a better team with him.  I'll reserve judgement until we see how his knee responds to the end of year pounding.)

* FLANNERY, JOHN
(Gone)

* Gruttadauria, Mike
(I like Mike, but the Rams can afford to lose him. Let him test the market then offer him fair deal)

* JUSTIN, PAUL
(Let him test market, then sign him to 1 million year deal if the Rams trade  either Warner or Green.)

* LYGHT, TODD
(Franchise Tag him, then try to sign him to a multi-year deal. The tag will  cost the Rams probably 5+ million dollar. No wonder Todd said he wouldn't  mind being tagged.)

* McCollum, Andy
(Let him test the market, then sign to min.)

* Miller, Fred
(Believe it or not, the Rams need him. Rams have no one to replace him yet.  Big Willie is still too raw, Todd F. is still injured and any rookie we would get with the 28-31 pick would not be able to step in and start. Signing  a FA would cost bucks the Rams need for Lyght, Carter, Bruce, etc.....Take away the Titan game, and Fred is a decent RT and decent Right tackles cost at  least 2 million per year. Sign Miller to a multi-year slightly back-loaded  deal...no huge signing bonus...so if one of the rookies develop it would be  easy to cut him a couple years down the road.)

* Morton, Mike
(May need him depending on what they do with L. Styles. I'm surprised Styles  isn't on this list. If they cut Styles, they should try to sign Morton,  as long as he doesn't ask too much. If they lose both of them they must sign  Clemons.)

* Thomas, Chris
(Let him test the market)

* Williams, Jay
(Let him test the market)
