My articles, poems, and short stories have appeared in Newsday, Futures Anthology MagEzine, AlienSkin Magazine, Wow, The Ragged Edge, CenterFocus, Purpose, Able Newspaper, Mouth, Capper's, Accent On Living, New Mobility, and a number of other publications.

My books include The Landscape of My Disability, Two-character Plays for Student Actors (Endorsed by Gary Burgoff who played Radar on M*A*S*H) On Stage! Short Plays for Acting Students (Endorsed by Helen Hayes), Finding Love And Intimacy, and How To Live Longer With A Disability [co-author Elle Becker].

My plays, such as Children of the Holocaust and I Have A Dream, have been published by the Meriwether's Contemporary Drama Service, Art Craft Play Company, Bakers, and Plays Magazine.

I was born in New York City on 9/25/46. In 1973 I moved from Whitestone, NYC, to Levittown, NY. I contracted polio at age five in 1951. After a few months at Elmhurst General Hospital in NYC, where I was in an iron lung, I was transferred to ST. CHARLES HOSPITAL in Port Jefferson, on Long Island, where I spent nearly two years being rehabilitated.

I left St. Charles in 1953. I returned there in 1960 and 1961 for several spinal fusions. I then attended elementary school and high school at home from 1960 to 1967 until I entered HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY in 1967.

I began feeling the symptoms of Post Polio Syndrome around 1965, but no one knew what PPS was back then. The PPS grew worse, and by 1969 I was getting extremely tired, short of breath and desperate. It took me over a year to find Dr. Augusta Alba on Roosevelt Island, NYC. Dr. Alba put on a respirator in 1970. Back then I only used my vent part time. I also began sleeping on a rocking bed that same year.

By the end of the 1980's I was using a vent full time. In 1989 I got rid of the rocking bed and began using a vent while I slept. I began to use a motorized wheelchair in 1980. Today, I can still walk, but only do so around my home. I do all my computing lying down, not being able to sit at a desk for long periods of time as a result of three spinal fusions, in 1960-61.

I received my B.A. (in Sociology) in 1976 from HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY on Long Island, where my first play, Others, was produced, in 1971. After graduating in 1976, I made my first professional sale as a writer. Since then I've had five BOOKS published and three booklets.

My articles have appeared in a number of disability publications, including Mouth, The Ragged Edge, New Mobility and Accent On Living. I've written many letters-to-the-editor and several op-ed pieces for Newsday Newspaper.

I have written a booklet on sexuality for disabled lovers called REAL CRIP SEX.

From 1986-1987 I wrote a monthly computer column for The Voice of the Physically Challenged. And until 2001 I wrote a computer column for Able Newspaper.

From 1980 to the present I've been an administrative assistant at the Long Island Center for Independent Living, Inc. where I do some of their editorial work and conduct workshops on various topics of interest to people with disabilities. These have included workshops on writing, intimacy, art and communications.

with the help of St. Jonh's University in NYC, I started two Internet lists. [email protected] and [email protected]. To join them, send E-mail to [email protected]. Just put Sub mobility YOUR NAME in the body of the E-mail. Or Sub polio YOUR NAME.
