The Week of February 4

Alison struggles to break Rafe's hold on Jamal. She screams for him to let him go or else Jamal will die. Rafe releases his grip and looks stunned, unable to recognize his own strength. She asks Jamal if he needs anything and he tells her to stop, he doesn't need anything from her, she has a new hero now anyway.

Rafe asks what happened and Alison explains that she just wanted Jamal to talk to her, but it was an accident. Rafe apologizes for his actions. Rafe offers to leave, but Jamal stops him telling him to make himself at home. He says to Alison that they need to cut their losses. In an emotional scene Alison learns that Jamal no longer loves her.

Alison lays her emotions on the line and tells Jamal that she will no longer fight him on it. She was fine with taking the fall for Valerie's death because she hoped he would come around and recognize that it was no body's fault. They used to turn to each other, they have been through so much. But now he is throwing his life away hoping that it will solve what happened to Valerie. Val had tried to kill her, tried to kill Jamal- did he forget that. Jamal turns a deaf ear to her, but she continues. Alison says that she doesn't recognize him anymore, opens the door for him and tells him to leave.

Alison collapses behind the closed door and cries. Rafe hesitantly comes up beside her and leans his head on her shoulder. She pushes him away, telling him that she wants him to go as well. Alison begins to regret everything she said to Jamal, and demands to know why Rafe hasn't left yet. He tells her that he cares about her, and she doesn't believe him saying that he doesn't give a damn about what she wants. Rafe defiantly says he does and asks if she really knows what she wants? She explains that she has loved Jamal for so long that she doesn't know what it feels like to not love him or not be loved by him. Ali says that things have changed and in part that's because Rafe complicates things for her. All he ever meant to do was be there for her. She says that he has, but that's part of the problem. She doesn't want him here, she doesn't want him consoling her, she can't deal with that right now. He agrees to leave, as the phone rings. Its Livvie, in tears asking Alison to come to the hospital, Kevin is in a coma and he might die.

Alison and Rafe arrive at the hospital. Livvie asks Rafe for some reassurance that miracles are possible, but Rafe can only offer his prayers as he no longer has his powers to perform miracles. He also reminds Livvie that our time on Earth is only meant as a stop over. Alison finds his comments forboding and confronts him about them aside. He insists they were just harmless, but remembers his conversation with Ed about the 5th chair. Alison finds his excuses difficult to swallow, but refrains from questioning him further. In the hospital chapel, Alison prays for guidence (read transcript) as Rafe looks on.

Sitting in the Recovery Room, Rafe remembers their park bench kiss and tells himself to just let Alison go. Amanda Barrington arrives, and while munching on pretzels, Rafe listens to her conversation with Ricky. She reveals that she is celebrating because her granddaughter has come to her senses and is leaving her "hooligan" boyfriend to return home. She will assure that Alison is watched and that she associates with the right kind of people- no more riff raff.

Meanwhile at Alison's apartment, Ali runs into Jamal who is looking for Hope's baby book. Before Jamal can leave, Alison reveals that she is leaving and he can stay. She says that she can't be there any longer and Jamal says that he can guess who she's moving in with and into "nicer digs." They argue about her new living arrangements as Jamal is under the impression she is moving in with Rafe. Alison reveals that she is returning to live with her Nana. She defends Rafe, saying that he had always encouraged that they get back together, but she can't stay there any longer. They shared the place and they grew up there together and fell in love together. He says everything died when Valerie did. Jamal cruelly says that he was wrong to teach her a "new way" to live and that she really belongs back at the mansion. After Jamal leaves, Alison begins to remember their happier times together. Her thoughts are interupted by pounding at the door- its Rafe

Rafe begins to chastise Alison's choice to return back home. He says its a place that will suck the life out of her.
Alison: Well its free rent, and the refrigerator is full and there's a butler there who will keep people out of the house, like yourself from entering in all hours of the night.
He says there's a reasonable place near Lucy's and that she shouldn't be living by herself because she never has before. They argue and Rafe refuses to let her return to a place where no one knows the real Alison and no ones realizes how special she is. She tries to leave, but he stops her saying that she can give up on herself, but he won't give up on her. She says that she feels like she's drowning and she needs some air.

Outside Rafe continues to insist that she let him help her, but she just wants to be left alone.
Alison: You are seriously getting on my very last nerve!
Rafe: all right fine! Then yell at me all right! Do something! Break something, kick the damn wall, I don't care!
Alison: Rafe! You're an angel! You're supposed to be peaceful. What? Didn't you take an oath or something? Why are you bugging me?!

They continue to argue and throw "soft" insults at each other. When she says he doesn't have any more magic he throws her over his shoulder telling her he's going to prove her wrong.

Rafe carries Alison into stables and forces her to listen to what he has to say. In an annoying turn, Alison refuses and like a child, plugs her ears and sings to drown out Rafe. This goes on for a bit, until Rafe finally loses his patience and tells her that if she wants to go then go! This finally silences her, and she gathers up her belongings. He asks her if going back to the mansion is going to make her happy. Angrily, she tells him that she's already tried "happiness" and her cakes have lasted longer than her so-called happiness. She lies and says that she can't wait to go back to the way she used to be, her Nana's "little princess." Rafe chastises her for calling her grandmother a childish name, and seeing that it bothers him, Alison says it over and over again. She defends her maturity and says that she's sick of it all. She wants to go back to being the materialistic person that she was, she was good at it. At least when she was selfish and shallow she was never hurt and was never confused. He asks if that's how she wants to live- never being moved? She can't go backwards! Alison tell him to just watch her.

Rafe chases after her and asks if she expects to go through life without being hurt. She says she's just not going to give a damn about anything or anybody but herself. Rafe grabs her hand and puts it in the snow asking her if she feels that? Pretty soon she'll go numb, does she want to feel numb for the rest of her life? She manages to pull her hand free, and he tells her that she is being entirely selfish and bull headed and is about to throw away something that he would give his soul for. In an emotionally packed speech, Rafe reminds Alison of the everyday things that he misses by not being alive (read the transcript). He says that if she can't appreciate those things for herself, maybe she can do it for him? Alison goes to hug him, and at first Rafe resists, but eventually succumbs.

Inside the barn, Rafe stokes a fire trying to keep Alison warm. He apologizes for shoving her hand in the snow. She tells him not to apologize, he was making a point and it was made, and she will definitely make best of her time. Alison asks Rafe how much time he has left on Earth, and he says that there is only 7 weeks. She doesn't understand how he's sure, and he pulls out his 13 numbered watch. He explains that for every week that he's there, it goes back a notch. After that he's gone- this time for good. He's not coming back again. Alison asks if it was worth it and Rafe says that there were times that he wished he hadn't come back at all. Loving Alison hurt, and knowing no matter what he felt that he could never have her. It hurt more than dying.

She reveals that she had read his journal and that she already knows. Alison admits that she had been running away from her feelings for him, which is why she's been pulling away from him. Excited, Rafe tells her that he's glad she knows, because people waste time not saying the things they need to say. If she had gone back to her Nana, then she wouldn't be the beautiful woman he fell in love with. He's not going to apologize for the way he felt. He says that he came back because he thought he was meant to help her and Jamal, but now maybe he's (Rafe's) her destiny instead. Alison pulls him into a kiss. When it starts get passioned, Rafe pulls back saying that its not fair to her. She tells him that he doesn't get to make that decision, she's been running and hiding from her feelings. She wants to be more than just his friend. Rafe nervously asks what she means, and Alison says that she wanted him then, and wants him now. They kiss.
