Been an interesting day. Started with the standard for this week "just a few more minutes" in bed..my body needs some serious recuperation. Thankfully there's but one more day to the weekend, two days I plan on going nowhere...editing/typing/playing games with the occasional online chat with whomever might be online...
Skipped breakfast, as has been a oft practiced routine of mine lately...Went to work over at 319th MI Bn, which is looking more and more to be my new permanent home. I actually like the way it seems to be workign out there. I have work to do in my actual MOS, enough to keep me from being bored, but, at least for now, not so much that I dread the day...I'm actually enjoying the work (again, for now). It's a real nice experience to have my own actual office, not a cubicle, not a shared desk, but my very own office with a door and a window and everything. :)
It was only a half day at the battalion. Jump Manifest just after lunch, and, finally, I made it out the bird. No third landing in a c130. My landing sucked hardcore...the wind shifted just in the last few seconds but there was nothing I could do...I learned the hard way at Airborne school just how easily it is to begin oscillating when I tried to correct my slip (steering into the wind to slow my descent)...that landing at Fort Benning hurt more than today's landing where I plopped almost straight down on my arse...But I got up and walked offthe drop zone without pain, and without injury--that's all that counts. And best of all, I got my cherry blast jump out of the way (you can figure out the meaning of that one I'm sure), and won't have to go to Bar for airborne ops refresher, nor lose jump pay. Regardless of this however, I'm still manifested for a jump Monday. (I suppose it was just in case this one got scrapped too...but i welcome the opportunity still)
I've been giving serious thought about a glossary here online. Through talking with my parents and chatting online with friends and strangers, I've learned just how much of a foreign vocabulary the military employs, chiefly the anocronyms: AIT, BCT, BCB, MOS, article 15, CO, NCO, just to name a few...I might get that started this weekend.
Dave's gone, should be at home in PA by now for sure, assuming he left at 3PM like he'd planned...Poor bastard got stuck on 4th July detail, tearing down and putting up july festival activities on base--turned out to be 18 hour days in the heat...glad I was not placed on that labor of shit...
Last night I received excellent news from the TM customer
service rep I'd bitched at about my voided tori ticket orders...I'd placed
three orders as part of a special for tori/alanis fan buiy b4 the public
deal. All three sets were within the first ten rows...Two orders
were canceled after home address/credit card billing address hit snafus
due to my recent move, and the fact that I'd typoed on my phone number
meant they left a message on someone else's machine about the situation...never
thinking to cross reference the other two orders and realize there were
two different #'s listed, nor did they email me...so I complained and bitched
about negligence...Ms. Thiessen took my case to heart and promised to do
all she could to secure similar seats for me...Tickets to any show on this
planet are alwasy reopening due to situations like mine and the lucky ones
get in on that. It happened on my first tori show, and now it's happened
again for the Atlanta show...Ms. Thiessen is still working on Charlotte,
and maybe i'll get lucky there also, but if not, I'm still tickled pink
that a little well placed complaint could garnish results...I wrote her
an obviously glowing email of thanks...
