While vacationing in London, John "Jack" Ryan, his wife Cathy, and their daughter Sally, find themselves in the middle of a terrorist attack. After finding cover for his family, Jack , a former US Marine officer, moves to see what he can do. He is able to ruin an attack by the Ulster Liberation Army, a violent offshoot of the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Because of this, the ULA want to get even with Jack, following him and his family back to the USA.
Personal Review:
This is one of Clancy's first books and one of his best. It most likely shows in my review. Clancy is in the prime of his work as an Author. It is well written and you can't wait to find out what happens to Jack Ryan next.
This is also the book that Jack is Knighted by the Queen of England. There are other characters that are used in this book, namely SGM 'Gunny' Breckenridge, that are used in this book, but not others. But then the Prince character (Which is the Prince of Wales) is brought back a few times. I would have liked to see more of this in his other books. |
