AC BUSES RECORD LOSS
The BEST AC buses are recording a loss of Rs. 1.75 lakh a day. The buses are, on an average only 35% full. The primary reason for this loss is the growing popularity of cars. Even during summer, the seats are barely 50% full. Another reason is in the mornings, the north bound buses remain almost empty, while in the evening, it's the opposite.
What we recommend:
Bus numbers A1 and A2 take the same route till Bandra. As a result of this many people do not mind taking any bus. However, the timings of the two buses are such that both of them are seen together. With a frequency of half an hour, if people see an AC bus going, they can be almost sure both have gone. This discourages people from travelling in AC buses.
Change the route of A4: A4 can be made to start from Colaba Bus Station and maybe go till Bandra Reclamation along its same route via Metro and Tardeo.
Increase the number of stops: AC buses should be made to stop at all stops limited buses stop at. Usually the bus does not stop at a particular stop, and the person opts to go by taxi or take a car

CHURCHGATE BUS STOPS CHANGED
The buses going to the bus stop at Churchgate on the east side of the station have been lessened to avoid congestion. This bus stop used to get very crowded especially during the evenings. Now only buses coming from Hutatma Chowk (70, 85, 106, 122, 132 and A1) stop at the Churchgate stop. The only exception here is A2 that also stops here. The other buses (76, 82, 89, 92L, 93L, 121 and 134) will now only stop at the stop before the signal towards Mantralaya.
67 SPOTTED AT KEMPS CORNER!: Bus number 67 was spotted at the turn to Kemps Corner from under the Kemps Corner flyover. It could not have been another bus as no other bus takes that turn. Perhaps it was a hired bus, in which they had not changed the route number and destination!

BEST DOES MAJOR ROUTE CHANGE
BEST has changed a lot of routes from the 1st of July 2004. The routes affected in South Mumbai are 132, 133 and A4. 132 and 133 earlier shared the same route, each going the opposite direction from Colaba to Tardeo and back to Colaba. The earlier route in brief was: Colaba - Metro - Prarthana Samaj - Tardeo - Breach Candy - Marine Lines - Churchgate - Colaba. 133 used to go from the Metro route wheras 132, first to Churchgate. This has been stopped and 132 now goes only from Colaba to Tardeo and not back to Colaba via Churchgate, Marine Lines and Breach Candy. 133 now goes from Colaba to August Kranti Maidan near Nana Chowk via Metro, Prarthana Samaj, Tardeo and Breach Candy. A4 used to go from Hutatma Chowk to Ghatkopar via VT and then onwards on the eastern side. A4 stopped plying on public holidays because of bad buisness and finally of the 1st of July 2004, the route was changed. A4 now goes via Marine Lines and onwards on the Western side and then at Dadar turns east towards Ghatkopar.
