Classification of BEST Bus Routes
Normal Buses: These buses constitute the bulk of the BEST bus routes. They do not always take the best routes and stop at all the bus stops along their respective route. Examples of buses that are normal, but yet take the best possible route route are 83, 85, 106 and 155. Examples of normal bus routes that take a longer route are 88, 101 and 103.
Limited Buses: Limited buses are buses that usually take the best route possible. They do not stop at all the stops along their respective route. Examples of limited buses are 7, 84 and 87. Limited buses cost 50p. to 150p. more than a normal bus.
Night Buses: Night buses ply on important routes between 12 midnight and 4 am. There are 7 night routes. The routes plying in South Mumbai are 1 Ltd. (Colaba to Mahim) and 66 Ltd. (Colaba to Dharavi)
Express Buses: The difference between Express buses and limited buses is that the express buses stop at even fewer stops, thus enabling the express buses to use flyovers that a usual bus could not use because of a stop underneath. There are only 2 express bus routes: 8 (Mantralaya to Shivaji Nagar) and 40 (Sewree to Borivili). They cost the same as Limited buses.
Air-Conditioned Buses: AC buses ply mostly on the Western side of Mumbai. They cost considerably more than Normal or Limited buses. Tickets start at Rs. 11 compared to Rs. 3 on Normal buses and Rs. 3.50 on a limited bus. The seats have an added comfort. AC Buses plying in South Mumbai are A1 (Hutatma Chowk to Oshiwara), A2 (World Trade centre to Oshiwara via Juhu Vile Parle) and A4 (Hutatma Chowk to Ghatkopar via Haji Ali)
Note: Friendly buses do not ply in South Mumbai
