Martian Mountains - Twin Peaks
During the recent
buzz of excitement over the NASA Pathfinder success story, many amazing photographs
have been transmitted for us to marvel at. This Pathfinder picture of the "Twin
Peaks" is one that caught my attention and filled me with images of a world full
of unexplored, unclimbed mountains, including the largest volcanic peak in our
solar system, Olympus Mons which towers 25 kilometers (about 75,000 feet!) above
the Martian surface. You can find many vivid images of the greatest wilderness
in our solar system at Mars Pictures,
or by using your favorite internet search engine and looking for "Pathfinder",
"NASA", "JPL", or "Mars". There are many NASA mirror sites available to explore
Mars on the internet. Photo courtesy of NASA/JPL.
