| 22 June 2002 Mr Murphy Article Future Vision of Evesham United - Front Page, Evesham Journal 20 June 2002 The paper for which you hold editorial responsibility has once again misled its readership on the subject of Evesham Uniteds proposed move to ground adjacent to Cheltenham Road. Your reporter, Pat Smith, failed to clarify any facts before writing this article. You, as editor, failed to check its content for fact, proving blatent bias in favour of the Clubs representatives in not printing factual information or investigating the views of others. In clarifying the facts, which should also be given front-page prominence, you will state that the plans submitted to Wychavon District Council (WDC) were NOT DETAILED and were rejected instantly. This was confirmed immediately by the Head of Planning at WDC, who would have given you the same information, had you enquired. No revised plan that conforms to the protocol and legalities needed for planning consent is lodged at WDC at the date of this letter. Reference to the cycle path addresses only one of a large number of restrictive 106's that have to be met for EUFC to be successful in developing the land outlined in your article. No plans have been submitted that address the others. Our group is NOT ANTI-FOOTBALL as we believe your Journal infers. It has never objected to a move by EUFC to an appropriate site. At no time has your paper reported that RAGE also stands against other intrusions on green land, including the TETRA mast at Hampton, and has taken issue with proposals for a complex at Twyford, the Marina development and the asylum seekers camp at Throckmorton. Your reporter was made aware of this, yet it was clearly judged inappropriate to print for whatever her reasons. You mislead not just those opposed to the move, but those EUFC fans wanting the best for the clubs interests. You must be aware of, though choose not to print, the many issues surrounding the Clubs move and the motives of the individuals involved. We will not hesitate to use legal inventory where appropriate against you, the Journal or Newsquest Media Group to ensure that a balanced view is reported to the residents of Evesham, whatever their views. We look forward to the next issue. Regards Secretary RAGE |

| Peter Temple-Fry From:"John Murphy" Sent:02 July 2002 11:11 Subject:Re Future Vision of Evesham United Dear Mr Temple-Fry, I refer to your recent letter and apologise for the delay in answering. We have not misled our readership as we made clear in the latest edition of the Evesham Journal. The *detailed plans were submitted but not accepted in their original form. Pat Smith did check the facts and presented them in an unbiased fashion. We have never inferred your group is anti-football. We would also be happy to consider carrying RAGE'S views on other environment matters, if it submitted them. We have chosen to print the many issues surrounding the Club's move on several occasions. I am happy that you are keeping a record of our coverage which, overall, has been fair and balanced. We are not prepared to be unduly influenced in our coverage by either side. Therefore your threat of "legal inventory" is not really significant in how we have, and will be covering this story. Incidentally, there is nothing stopping me and this paper wholly backing the Evesham United application. I happen to think that we serve the community better by remaining neutral, balanced and fair. Unfortunately, there are some people who accuse us of bias as soon as we carry the views of their opposition, I am hoping that somebody from RAGE will take the opportunity of responding to the detailed plans in this week's edition. If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me. Yours sincerely, John Murphy Editor Journal Series, Evesham, Stratford, Cotswolds *Landscape plans returned to developers and WDC Landscape office, after this letter, with very little detail on. |
