| Tuesday - Decided on the Piazza San Pietro (St. Peter's Square) and the Sistine Chapel today but during breakfast I found out that the Sistine Chapel was closed due to a holiday. UGH! Still we took a taxi to St. Peter's Square, got there at 8:45AM. St. Peter was martryed in the circus of Nero in 64 or 67 A.D., where the basilica now stands. The oldest monument in the squre is the Egyptian Obelisk which stands in the center. We were frequently warned about the pickpockets but it wasn't crowded so no worries. |
