| St. Peter's Basilica is HUGE! 4 or 5 regular churches could fit inside. It's so beautiful, the dome, statues, paintings, the Altar of Confession, etc. Then there is the "Pieta" (the Pity), the stature represents the sorrow of the Madonna holding Her dead Son and Her acceptance of the will of God. STUNNING. It is the only statue ever signed by Michelangelo. We weren't able to see the statue of St. Peter because part of the basilica was cordoned off. This is definitely a church I could stay in for a few hours and not fall asleep! |
