BALATA REFUGEE CAMP CHILDREN'S ART & FILM TOUR
Two Americans who have worked with the Balata Film Collective in the Balata Refugee Camp in Nablus, West Bank, Occupied Palestine, are touring Florida in July with a children's art exhibit and film presentation. The art exhibit, entitled "Unoccupied Minds," consistss of artwork and corresponding audio interviews with 23 children aged 8-14. All of the children are from Balata/Nablus. The interviews and artwork reveal the children's feelings about their surroundings, their hopes for the future and their understanding of the past. Works by members of the Balata Film Collective are also part of the show. The film collective was founded two years ago to enable young Palestinians from the Balata Refugee Camp to break their isolation, challenge their oppression and present their lives to the world. Since its inception, the collective has produced nine short documentary films.
