My father was born to NS
Pillai and Thankamma in 1945 at Trivandrum, Kerala.
He has 6 sisters and 3 brothers.
He spent the first four years of his life in Panang, Malaya (now
Malaysia) where his father was employed.
He completed his elementary education in Vanchiyoor upper primary
school and completed his high school at SMV School in Trivandrum.He
studied geology for a year in University College in Trivandrum, but
decided to pursue Engineering instead.
He passed out of the Trivandrum Engineering College in 1968 and
got married to my mother in 1971.
1971 is also the year he started his first job as a Technical
Assistant for Bokaro Steel Plant in Bokaro, Bihar.He was an employee of
Hindustan Steel Construction Limited ( HSCL). He then worked as an
Assistant Divisional Engineer at Kudremukh, Karnataka at the IronOre Plant. Next, My father left for
Iraq and worked as a Civil Engineer at a place called Ramadhi.
The family left Iraq once the Iraq-Iran war started.
In 1973, my brother Ramesh was born.I was born in 1977.
My dad's career was resumed with HSCL as he began to work for the
Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh. After 6 years
in Vizag, the family moved to Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
After 3 years in Hyderabad, my father took voluntary retirement
from HSCL and went to the Gulf again.This time on his own with the
family in Trivandrum.He worked for two years in Dubai. In 1995, my
mother joined him as he worked for a private construcation company
in AbuDhabi, UAE.
In 1998, a decision was made to immigrate to the USA when the green
card processing came through.My father joined the Jones Construction
Company and then switched over to the Temple Group where he is
currently employed as a Civil Enginner and Estimator in Washington,
DC.
Both his children were married in March of 2001 .
My father is presently busy with work and taking care of his new
home at Germantown , MD
I am extremely proud of my father's noble spirit and gentle character.
These characteristics along with his tireless determination to always provide the good things in life for his family is what I respect greatly about him.
