And the Oscar goes to ...
| Well, this isn't Hollywood, but it sure does come close. With winning any event comes the unmistakable glory of being either a national or divisional event champion. Ronald has been both, numerous times. And just like Hollywood, the trophy racers are presented with have been nicknamed Oscars. So here's the run-down: |

National Event Wins

NHRA GRANDNATIONAL -- Prior to the running of the 19th Annual Le Grandnational-Molson,
neither of the Stock Eliminator finalists had been able to advance past
the quarter-finals of any drag race, on a National or Divinsional level.
As things turned out, the smiling face in the winner's circle belonged
to Ronald Urquhart of Plainfield, NJ, who drove his E/SA '68 Camaro past
the H/SA '69 Camaro of Mike Jacobs from Johnson City, NY.
taken from National Dragster 1989 NHRA SUMMERNATIONALS -- At the height of his 13-year Stock racing career, just days after winning his first NHRA National event, Ron Urquhart feared that he wouldn't be able to compete at the Budweiser Summernationals -- because he couldn't get his car out of his trailer ... He awoke on the Sunday morning before the race to find that someone had stolen his GMC crew cab duallie -- his only means of moving the trailer -- right off the street in front of his house. Urquhart was understandably dejected as he watched other local racers prepare for the East Coast's most prestigious drag race ... Urquhart resigned himself to the fact that he wouldn't get the chance to accomplish the nearly impossible feat of winning two consecutive National events. Then one day beofre the race began, Steve Kutch, who'd never met Urquhart, offered the use of his truck through a mutual friend, '84 Springnationals Super Stock champ Mark Osterbye. "Getting to Raceway Park turned out to be the toughest part of winning the event, because once there, Urquhart blew through eliminations with a modicum of difficulty." |
