Bastille: n. An old fortress and state prison in Paris, demolished in the Revolution (July 1789); hence any prison esp as a symbol of tyrrany; a tower for the defence of a fortress; a movable tower used by besiegers.
Bastille Day: 14 July, a French national holiday.
