Chinese Language and Culture
When I finished my Diploma of Financial Planning, I decided to do some of the things I'd been put on hold, including studying for interest and pleasure.
So I started learning Mandarin Chinese at the Institute of Modern Languages (IML) at the University of Queensland.
Why Chinese? Well, I can remember sitting with a group of friends when I was at primary school - it was probably grade 7 and so we were discussing what subjects we were going to do at high school - and I said I was going to learn Chinese.
Probably because it was the most outrageous thing I could think of at the time.
So, now I am.
Something else I've always wanted to do, though I don't remember the reason behind it now, is go to China.
Learning Chinese at the IML gave me the opportunity to do just that in September 2001.
