Sept21...well, the past weekend was fun and the weather has been gorgeous.  Saturday I did yard work, which is one of the good things about where I live, I get to go outside and mess in a flowerbed, rake leaves, get dirty and sweaty, and be constructive. That night I attended a Drum Circle with some Atl friends...interesting...next time I go I'm taking spoons or something so I can jump in with the noisemaking...it was a real experience, and good fun. The atmosphere was very calm despite all the drumming and yelling and clanging.  It was like you knew you were in a place where everyone was relatively peaceable and non-threatening...a place where you could just do what you wanted and no one looked at anything as negative, just everyones own thing, and promoted just that. So I was happy sitting on a rock and enjoying the scene. Every once in a while someone would pass around their conga and have you play it, and Christyna brought some symbol-like instruments from India that made a really neat sound.  Sunday I tried my legs at mtbiking for the first time in a few weeks.  Conyers isn't the best place to get back in the groove, and it definitly showed me I've got a lot of work to do...I only rode the first section and called it a day, exhausted.  Yesterday I went BACK to the Olympic Trail after classes  and did the whole thing. A guy named Sam caught up with me on the first section and we rode together the rest of the trail and was what I needed b/c my motivation was dwindling. I ended up performing not too badly, but the hills were killer, as usual. I'm taking a day of rest today and going at it again tomorrow. Tonight I'm studying for a dreaded Bio exam. It covers 7 chapters. Nuff said. And I got back my test grades for the last 2 exams I took, both B's....gees I hate being average. I think I'm going to switch into nerd mode here soon.
I've come in contact with a number of bugs I've never seen before since moving into my basement apartment.  There may even be a few species that have never been identified.  Particularly the grandaddy longlegs (insert shudder here).
Today during break Chrys and I headed to the courtyard where the Latin American Association was putting on music and food.  I know I'm going to sound shallow when I say this, but I'm human, and HOLY MOLEY talk about some eye candy. I will say to the end that Latin men who know how to dance are damn sexy, and all kinds of music was played: Cuban, Mexican, Colombian, etc....it was a good break before plunging back into the world of psycho babble.
I think that's about it.  I'll post some more later this week.
Hasta luego-
Sept17...woo...I've been a slacker on this page huh. Ok. Where to begin. Well, I moved to Atlanta the week after Labor Day. I'm in a cool little basement aptartment out Ponce de Leon...its an area I've always wanted to live in so I'm glad I found it when I did. Everything is swell there, I have access to the main house, my utls are included w/rent, the landlord is a retired prof from Ga State, and there are TREES! all around! Praise be.  Since the last storm from Hurrican Charley, we, of course, have had side-effects from Hurrican Ivan...darn Ivan. So, yesterday Atlanta was under flash flood attack, trees fell left and right (natrually with no regard to cars...parked or in motion) and of course the only two schools open in the entire area were Georgia TEch and Georgia State...I'm senseing some rivalry there. Hah...I think even if there was no electricity and the buildings were blown down, they'd find a way to still have class.  Which at least means my student loan isn't going to waste. The house I live in is in a no-power area for now, and last night with all the rain my apt sprung a few leaks so hopefully over the weekend those problems will be resolved. There was an earthworm in my kitchen floor this morning...I'm still not sure exactly HOW, but I remember,  it's a basement, where theres a will, theres a way.  So I'm abandoning my abode for the weekend and seeking powered shelter either in Columbus or Carolina. Either way I have organic milk that is chilling on ice in a slowly warming freezer. Not good.
Bio lab in 15mins.
Ah, lets see, Tuesday night a friend and I went to see Jesse Jackson speak in Columbus.  I was glad to have the opportunity to hear him speak. And it was worth the drive down. He has a very powerful voice and spoke on some important issues that people, especially students, need to hear.
What else. I haven't been riding much lately because of the weather. Which is a REAL bummer. Hopefully it'll be sunny for a little bit before the next hurricane hits the states. There are some rays peeking through the windy sky today...fingers crossed.
Welp, that's about it for now. I'll get back on the flip side sometime next week. Ciao
Sept8--another Wednesday...what a strange coincidence...three in a row.
well, Atlanta is slowly recovering from our little blustery day...there are street lights out all over the place...I'd  hate to see it if there was a REAL storm to pass through...would probably cause some mass hysteria...people already have no clue how to drive in RAIN! oh God, rain...emergency flashers ON....essentially BLINDING the rest of us who have seen precipitation before...come on PEEPAL!!
hah...ok, rant #1 for the day...that felt good. you know how on the back of shampoo it says "rinse and repeat"...well that was my first rinse...
I think that during my move I missed the fall fashion memo...darn. Well, I spent most of my short at-home morning wondering if linen is out yet...I think it IS, and considered phoning a more-informed-on-fashion-rules friend ...but decided he wouldn't be up at 7am, and grabbed my favorite shirt anyway, justification found in that I KNOW business women who wear linen jackets to work all year, so it must be ok on Sept 8 to bring along the article of clothing that has been like a safety blanket all summer...then after I got to school, I realized I must have missed the COLD WEATHER memo...DRAT! b/c most of GSU is bundled up...seirously now, sweaters? Do we think it WON'T be excrusiatingly warm in a week or so???...hello hello...it's just rain, it's just September. Calm thyselves. I momentarily considered going home and putting on closed toe shoes just to fit in, but then saw a pacific islander with flip flops on so I didn't feel left out, and then I thought, hell, this is A-T-L, even if "The Metro" spot me, who cares...even I dont have to care. I love it here!
Well, I've been a real slacker about this website. Mainly I just try to make it more navigable for me. Selfish indeed. I've come across a load of great quotes in music lyrics. I'll have to add them in soon.
Sept 1--Wednesday again, the middle of week 2...school is swell, I finally made it to my 8am on time this morning...that means leaving the house by or before 6am...good gosh, you know it's still dark then!..very difficult for a sun-lover to function in speedy mode at that time of morning. Thankfully I should be settled in Atl by the end of the week. I'm reeeeeeeely lookin forward to it.
Last weekend I stayed in Columbus, the first in a while that I haven't been traveling here and there Friday-Sunday...very nice...but, this weekend I believe I must make the rounds to SC to see my dear Papa, who is in the hospital recovering from yet another hip surgery, then plan to be back in Columbus Saturday night if all goes well, for a holiday par-t at Waynes...that should be fun...plenty of food, spirits, and socializing.
Guess that's about it for now, this is Rach, signing off.
Aug25,2005 Wednesday, third day of fall classes
a brief update: The Houston trip was a blast. Despite a flat tire outside of Mobile the drive to Baton Rouge last Wednesday was fun...actually even the flat tire part was hilarious. Arrived in Houston Thurs and toured the downtown area, ate dinner with Mikes parents and bedded down for the night. Friday spent the entire day at very sunny Galveston Beach, wore ourselves out playing in the (very choppy) water, and got a good tan (woohoo). Saturday night we had tickets to the Astros game, compliments of Mike's uncle Kontrimas (that name is so cool). The 12hr drive home on Sunday was a little rough, but we made it safely. I've been tired the past couple of days but thanks to youth am slowly getting back in the swing of things.
Still waiting for the apt to become ready...I'm tired of driving! The life of a procrastinator who is also the offspring of a slight procrastinator (haha...no really my mom is swamped all the time so I dont mind, shes a real blessing of a mother) Hopefully will be moved into something by the end of next week or shortly after Labor Day. My classes are naturally awesome...the instructors all seem great. I'm looking forward to the semester (and spring/graduation, finally). I'll try to post some pictures soon-
ciao-
