| About the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation (NNFF) NNFF a not for profit organization is the leading resounce on neurofibromatosis NNFF drives research to find effective treatments and a cure for NF. NNFF provides direct services to children and adults with NF. NNFF provides information and resources to the public and medical professionals Facts about NF: NF affects 100,000 Americans. 1 in 4,000 births for NF1 and 1 in 40,000 for NF2. NF is a genetic disorder which causes tumors to grow along nerves throughout the body. In additon, NF can affect the development of other parts of the body, such as bones and skin. NF is more prevalent than Cystic Fibrosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington's Disease combined. NF is equally likely to occur among men and women of any race or ethnic group. 50% of all people with NF have no family history of the disorder. About 50% of people with NF have learning disabilities. (Recent studies suggest that percentage to even be more like 60-70%) There is a 50% chance of passing on the disorder to a child if one parent has NF. For more information go to www.nf.org |
