More stuff

This is the man without whom, the world would be a lot safer. But, without him, the saga of Megaman would not happen. Also, he has affected the timeline in the Megaman universe tremendously. His schemes have always been fun to foil, too. There is one unusual thing, though. He seems to have an obsession with Gutsman. He was a boss in MM1, and in the last stage, where four robots had to be fought a second time, Gutsman statues could be found lining the ceiling. He rebuilt Gutsman in MM2 at the monstrous Guts-Doser, and of all the robots to take from the museum in MM7, he took Gutsman. What is this? Some kind of mania?

Rockboard

This is something that must have happened only in Japan. This is a cover shot from "Rockboard". It is a type of board-type video game featuring Roll, Kalinka, and Drs. Cassock, Light, and Wily engaging in a friendly(?) game. Hey, Wily! Play fair!

Megaman: the Power Battles

This was a pretty cool concept. It is played the same way as a side-scroller, but only bosses are fought. The player has his/her choice of playing as Megaman, Protoman, or Bass. Also, the player has his/her choice of running one of three gauntlets of Robot Masters, Megaman 1-2 (Gutsman, Airman, etc.), Megaman 3-6 (Snakeman, Napalmman, Flameman, etc.), and Megaman 7 (Shademan, Turboman, etc.). The bosses are always the Rock Monster from 1 and 3, now more of a blob monster, the big Pumpkinbot from Shademan's stage, and Dr. W. When Dr. Wily is foiled, you have 10 seconds to destroy his getaway vehicle, otherwise he gets away. From what I hear, Power Battles 2 has been out a while, though was not widely found in America. It features the newest robot, Duo.

Megaman Soccer

This game is one I have not played. But, let's talk about it anyway. It features Megaman, Protoman, and a host of Robot Masters in a game of soccer. Characters include Pharoahman, Skullman, Cutman, Flashman, Bubbleman, Toadman, Elecman, Iceman, Airman, Bombman, Dustman, Needleman, Topman, Woodman, Snakeman, Geminiman, Enker (from Megaman Game Boy), and, of course, Dr. W himself! You know, I would never have figured him for the athletic type. Strangely, no sign of Gutsman!

Rockman: Battle and Chase

Basically, it's Super Mario Kart done Megaman style. Though you may not be able to tell right away (The picture is a bit tiny. Sorry.), it features Megaman (in Rush), Bass (in Trebble), Protoman in a Shieldcar, Roll in one that looks like Beat, Gutsman, Shadowman, Iceman, Springman, and more!

I got some info from MMandRush1, and I think I'll let you see it in his words:

ok.In one player mode you race against all hte racers. If you beat them it
gets harder. If you play that person 4 times then you get their
wheels, spoiler, jet and............the body!!!!If you get the body then you
can use their power!(For example if your bass and you beat Ice man 4 times
you can take his body and have the power to shoot ice.) And also you race
against this person ( I'm thinking it's duo or someone) who has initials of
BB.I cannot send any pictures or anything, sorry. You have a powering up
thing,it is a meter and when it's powered up you can do a different more
powerful attack. In the lower left corner there is a box, when you hit the
yellow metalls or hardhats in two sizes, big and small, and cones. If you hit
them (or shoot them) it will count down point(s).When it is counted down,(you
begin with 10) then you will get items like the supermariokart way. You can
get a thunderbolt, which electricutes the opponent(s) and makes them slow
down,10 point extra which adds 10 points to that box, green thing which makes
all the small hardhats and cones green spikey things which can hurt your
opponents AND you, X3 which times 3 what ever your using and that yashishi
from megaman 8 when rush question lets, the thing that refills all weapon and
life. also a bomb like thing like napalmmans but it sort of a time bomb.you
let it go you can remote control setit of or people can roll over it.

His entire letter was far too long to include, but he says Napalmman has bombs, Iceman has ice projectiles, Roll can jump, Springman has springs on his car, Protoman has his shield, Megaman and Bass fire from thier arm cannons, Shadowman has suriken, and Gutsman tosses boulders, and Quickman has a speed boost. Wiley, a hidden character, has a quadruple semi-homing shot.

Rockman and Forte

This is another one that never made it to the U.S. "Rockman" is "Megaman" and "Forte" is "Bass." Here, a new threat appears in the form of the robot called King! He steals two of Dr. W's robots and has six of his own. Dr. Light sends Megaman to investigate. Bass is sent by Dr. Wily to confront King as well. The robots include Tenguman and Astroman from Megaman 8, plus Coldman, Burnerman, Pirateman, Groundman, Magicman, and Dynamoman. Their weapons are the Tengu Blade, Copy Vision, Ice wall, Wave Burner, Remote Mine, Spread Drill, Magic Card, and Lightning Bolt, respectively. Megaman is the same as always, but Bass has a dash instead of a slide and an 8-direction aiming ability rather than a charged shot. This game was for the SNES.

Yamato and Tengu? What are those?!

"Yamato" has a number of translations. According to Jack Seward's Japanese in Action, "Yamato" can be used to mean "Japan" or the Japanese Islands. It is also the name of a ruler in the old days of Feudal Japan, according to Moses "Mr. X" Gomez. In any case, this is a Robot Master dreamt up by someone in Japan who has knowledge of his nation's history.

"Tengu" is a bit more dificult. Supposedly, they are legendary monks who lived up in the mountains. They are famous for their masks, which featured very long noses. They had mystical powers, but I am hazy on the details. Anyone with information is invited to share what they know.

Saturn X contributes:

Kodansha's Romanized Japanese-English Dictionary says that:

tengu-long nosed goblin <<A familiar character in folk tales, a tengu
is human in form with a red face and wings and is said to live deep in
mountains.>>

This explains the "red face," the "long nose," and any "wings" that
Tengu Man might have.

Gilles Poitras' The Anime Companion has this as its entry for "Tengu (Mountain Spirit)":

A supernatural being, sometimes depicted as a human body with a bird's head and wings. Tengu are also depicted as being more humanlike, with a red face and long nose. Tengu can wear the garb of a Yamabushi and carry a feather fan. Traditionally they live in trees and often protect certain mountains.

Who's that Robot?

As you surf the web, you'll undoubtedly come across some Megaman web pages erected by people who have access to and information from the untranslated Japanese versions of your favorite Megaman games. All the Mavericks or Robot Masters seem to looks similar, but who are these other people who look like your favorite characters, but are named differently? Well, look no further, because they ARE the same characters! Here's a handy guide to tell you exactly who is who.
