Norway is a long and narrow country on top of Europe. Norway share border with Sweden (Norway is often mistaken for the capital of Sweden), and Finland and Russia in the east, Denmark and the UK are neighbours at the other side of the North Sea.
Population: about 4.5 millions
Constitution: Monarchy, Harald 5th. the third king of the House of Glucksburg, after independence from Sweden in 1905. Shared king with Sweden 1814-1905.
The Constitution (Grunnlova) of 1814 put the political power in the parliament "Stortinget" which form a goverment around the prime minister. The government act as "the King in ministery counsil" where the King may put down a veto in a case up to three times, at when the King is overruled by his ministers.
Constitution Day: May 17th. A colourful celebration by the people with a more than 100 year old tradition. After WW2 also a celebration of freedom and the King.
Head of armed forces: The King.
Currency: Norwegian Kroner (NOK). 1 Euro = 8 NOK, $1 = 9 NOK, �1 = 12 NOK
Famous Norwegains:
Roald Amundsen (won the race of the south pole with Scott), Fritjof Nansen (went trough the North-West Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific),
Edward Munch (expressionist painter),
Bj�rn D�lie (winter sports, nordic skiing),
Johan Olav Koss (winter sports, ice skating)
Gro Harlem Brundtland (ex prime minister, now head of the World Health Organisation WHO)
Relations:
Norway is not a part of EU, but a part of the European Economic Area. That means that you're not aloud to bring more than 1 bottle of liquer and 1 bottle of wine and a box of tobacco into the country.
Norway is a part of the NATO defence alliance
Exports:
Whole fish, crude oil and gas, pure metals, furniture, oil technology, boats and good ideas that Norwegians don't want to invest money in.
