In Medieval times, a guild was made up of people joined together by their craft or trade. The purpose of the guild was to uphold the standards of their craft, to train new initiates in the craft, and to protect it's members.

Apart from the need for protection, Q.U.I.L.T.S., The Springfield Area Quilters' Guild, was founded in January of 1984 with the same goals as guilds of old. The acronym Q.U.I.L.T.S., chosen as the name of the guild, further emphasizes those goals:

Quilters
United
In
Learning
Teaching
Self-Improvement

The guild is a good place to be with others who have caught "quilt fever", a place to be encouraged and have fun. There is always someone to share your excitement when you finish a project or as you start something new. The members are always willing to help each other and share the latest hints they've learned. Each and every member has something to contribute, no matter what their experience level. The guild also is a good place to find a friend willing to go that extra mile (or is it 30?) to visit a new quilt shop or attend a quilt show or workshop.
