Directions for appliqué will follow... I just want to give you some basic information first.
I think it would be fun if everyone designed their own pumpkins and we could see how different all the quilts look. Here are some samples to see... and a pattern if you really insist!
Main page of pumpkin applique
The background for the pumpkin in this pattern is 16 inches,
but I always cut it a little larger. The blocks in the quilt are
8 inches square... (or should be) and the appliqué center takes
up four squares in the quilt.
Appliqué takes up some fabric and you may want to reposition your center once everything in on. So, to be safe, I would cut the background 2 inches larger, or 18 inches. Fold your background in half and press, up fold and press a crease in the opposite direction. Keep doing this until you have it creased in all directions. The crease lines will act a guidelines when you place the appliqué pieces on.

You can use my pumpkin pattern, or design one of your own.
You may want your pumpkin to be a little thinner than my plump one.
It could be larger or smaller... thinner or taller... you can
even make it lopsided.... most are!
Just try to have it fill the background square evenly but leave some room around the edges so it isn't crowded. |
|
Now add a stem... the umbilical cord of the little guy if you will... It can be just like mine, or design one of your own. Stems are great for pulling off his head! |
You can add some leaves and stems for fun... copy these or design some of your own shape and vine... |
Next comes the face... you can do this... I know you USA quilters have all carved a pumpkin... give it a unique personality of your very own... you can make him scary or scared... happy or sad ... maybe even glad... Booooo!! |
Oh my.... noises that go bump in the night... give me such a terrible fright! |
