How to make an Attic Window Block ~~~~ with MITERS!

A little hard to tell in this picture, but those are tropical fish in the windows.  Light yellow sill and light blue sides, plus almost white sashing makes the windows stand out even more.

If you notice that the sill and sides aren't that much different in "color value" but it sill has a 3-D look because the actual colors makes them contrast to give the "sill and sides" definition. Sashing strips where added between the blocks for greater depth.

See that you have more of a 3-D look if your "window fabric" has a very dark background. (brought to my attention by KP!)

33" x 35"

There are no mitered borders in the window sashing of this quilt but depth is still created by the deep contrast in the outside border depicting the window itself.  Love the Kitty!

A different window again...  see, I said I think it would look neat if I put one of those half circle windows above an attic window quilt.... and here one is!  Nothing new anymore, egh?

Sharyn created an illusion of greater depth by adding sashing  strips (the green)  between blocks in the rectangular attic variation.

The quiltmaker didn't put a background in the windows of this quilt, but still created an illusion of depth by using scraps in the sills. Maybe a "starry" fabric in the window would give the illusion of a night sky.

KP added 'extra' dolphins over the frames to create a 3-D look.

Notice that Marnie put her "sills" on top and left instead of lower and left or lower and right.

Dianna W. made this 3-D attic windows quilt with fish swimming out of the windows. "Lady Elaine" Olsen made this quilt that shows mother nature's weather... her white sashing around her attic window blocks creates a deep window effect.
