Questioning Amillennialism

One Lutheran Woman's Search For Truth

Does it matter?

Well, you have made it through many, many pages of my painful journey. Now, here’s the question. If these things I have laid before you are the truth – if in fact the amillennial view is actually wrong – does it matter? Is it important?

I've spent the last years trying to answer that. I can say with certainty that it is important to me - but is it important to God? I still don't have any definite answer on that.

And, if you accept all this, what does it mean for you? I can't answer that, either. You need to seek God's will for you and your family. Do you stay in your amillennial church? And, if you do, does that mean you just bite your tongue when these things come up? What about when it comes up in your children's catechism classes? Do you tell your children what YOU believe? Or, do you figure that would just confuse them? And, if you start speaking out - what does that mean in your church? What happens if you start thinking, "If they've got this so wrong, what else do they have wrong?"

And, what if you leave? Does that mean leaving behind other beliefs that you've been taught? Where do you go instead? What will your family and friends say?

Those are just some of the questions that have run through MY mind. I wish I had good answers for you. I don't. However, there is One who does. Your Savior loved you enough to die that you might live. He's not going to abandon you now. Things don't happen by accident. You haven't been reading this by sheer chance. Our Lord has a purpose for you - that He will show you in His time. Just trust Him. He will make everything work out for your good. If He wants you at a different church, He will show you. If He wants you to speak up and convince others, He will motivate you to do that.

Whatever you do, don't do it hastily. Make very sure that's what God wants you to do. Many, many people have asked me why I don't just leave. My answer so far has been, "I don't think God wants me to."

My strongest advice - while you're sorting all this out, don't let yourself fall into the same sin as I did and build up a big "me" versus "them" thing in your head. Most pastors just want to feed their sheep and see them safely home. They would never do anything on purpose to mislead you. They're just people, the same as all of us. We always expect them to "know all things." And when it becomes apparent that they don't, we become terribly disappointed in them. Sometimes we jump ship, looking for someone else who DOES know all things. Except we're not going to find that person on this side of heaven. That's not the right reason for leaving.

Instead of setting yourself against your church and your pastors, pray for them, with all your heart. You'll be amazed at what happens within yourself. It stops being "me" versus "them" and just becomes "us."

The day is drawing swiftly to a close. Whatever you do, just "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness" and all the rest of it will fall into place. Be in His Word and He will use it to keep you in His Will.

God bless you! I pray that God makes your path clear.

Your sister in Christ,

Lee
