CARLO
JONES ASCANO y BAYACA
Many agree that Carlo is one of the most serious people in the batch. Some may find his mumbling a little queer. But actually, Carlo also has his wacky side. Carlo, or Corpse, as we call him, is a strong and determined leader with a perfect bearing (parang may hanger), making him fit to be the Corps Commander (ang iniidolong Corps Commander, Best Cadet Officer, eh). With meditation as his arm, he is driven to do his best in everything he does; and his iron will and ambitions will surely propel him to success. This guy’s a living (or dead) proof of the notion that art belongs to the right brain, logic to the left --- because he’s both a competent mathematician and artist. With a touch of sentiment in his heart, expect an array of emotions from him. He’s also a heartthrob; Avogadro girls go wild over him! (Nge!) And be careful, this guy’s a real noise-hater! |
KATRINA
FIDELINA ADAN y CEPEDA
This achiever excels in all subjects. Mathematics, English, and all the sciences --- name it, she knows it. She joined countless contests and won in most of them. Aside from being one of Scientia’s top achievers, she’s also an able singer and a very good folk dancer. And yeah, this Jennifer Aniston look-alike is also a major heartthrob. (lub-dub-lub-dub) When Katz, as she is commonly known, is happy about something, expect her to go insane --- she’ll laugh at everything and anything, including herself, and would keep on giggling until her stomach hurts. She also has a string of crushes, about two guys a week (joke!) Katz is almost always late --- in school and in meetings in spite of her place’s proximity (di ba sa Project 7 lang kayo nakatira?). But there is one thing she’s never late for ---fashion. This gal has a flair for fashion. Undoubtedly, she’s one of the best-dressed seniors in school. Curie’s top mathematician plans to pursue medicine as a career. With her brains and intelligence, everything would surely be a breeze. |
MCREYNALD
BANDERLIPE y SIMBAJON The mascot of Curie-IV, he never fails to entertain the class with his dancing moves and singing voice (meron ba?). And because he is very “unique,” a day will not pass without the teasing from the class. Mc is brimming with ideas that’s why most of the time, his comments are out of line and very far from the subject. Like, pang-ilang Ms. Universe na si Dayanara Torres? Mc’s voice is very unique, nasal na pang-bading na hindi mo maintindihan. If you feel the room shaking and you hear a thunderous sound in the Seniors’ Hall, don’t panic! It’s not an earthquake, it’s just Mc. Mc holds the record for the longest time (sa pag-hold ng breath? Kaya ba siya mataba?) in solving a Calculus problem. If you want to know who the winners are in the Miss Universe pageant or when the next Asia-Pacific beauty contest will be, or what special awards were received by Miss Philippines, you can get the information from this fanatic, rather-- a Beauty Queen Wannabe. He’ll even give you a detailed story about the pageant. |
FLORDELIZA
BALGOS y ORTENCIO
Your first impression about Flor is that of a silent timid girl with a kind smile. When you get to know her better, you’ll discover her special ability to crack corny jokes. But in truth, Flor is a smart, silent yet bubbly, proud yet humble girl, who provides great company most of the time. She keeps her private life to herself but it doesn’t mean that she’s unapproachable. She’s the sort of person you will feel at ease with on first meeting, and also the type of person you can trust. Flor is a good writer who wants to be an accountant. She’s got good moral values and manners. She likes simple things and dreams. Simple but very lucky, especially when it comes to games of chances like lotto. She also has a genuine bopek voice (parang ipis kung magsalita). She never gets angry, you’ll never even see her frown. Flor is a special girl who loves to smile and who is yet to bloom. |
PETER
ALLAN BONTUYAN y RIZADA
You would probably think that this four-eyed lad has no more energy left in him –he’s the sleepiest person in Curie-IV and you’ll get amazed by his ability to sleep anywhere, anytime, probably even while he’s standing. But when awake and kicking, Bonts, as many call him to avoid confusion with the other Peter, just may scare you off with his boisterous laughs and restless wriggling, and monkey-like antics. If you talk to him, expect a rising tone at the end of every sentence. That’s why he’s called Mr. Exclamation!!! And no, he’s not that stingy! He’s only a practical and wise money handler. The Expo Pilipino fanatic in of the batch --- he’s also gifted with a baritone voice, which, combined with his “feel-na-feel” facial expressions makes him a rightful member of the Himig Scientia. Himig often chooses him to act lead roles in performances because ha has “theatrical” potential, too. Super-bass daw siya. So watch out! If Peter joins the Oblation Run, you’ll recognize him by his Expo pin and cap! Meet Mister X --- as in Mr. Expo and Mr. Exclamation! |
AIMEE
CARLA BERMUDEZ y GINETE
This is the girl who thinks that she is the prettiest of all the Scientians. When you hear the words, “Ang pretty-pretty ko talaga,” those confidence-raising and ego-boasting words came from her. And don’t tease her about her nose, she’ll tell you it’s an asset. If the class doesn’t have a venue for practices, she’ll offer her huge nose, ay, house pala in a jiffy. She also loves sight-seeing (boys!) and her being the photo editor of the Banyuhay helps sharpen her skills. So boys, if she takes your picture, beware! She said that she admires all her teachers (SIPSiP!!!) and would like to pursue several careers (TAKE NOTE….several!). Mimi, as she is popularly known, seldom studies but still manages to get high grades and stay in Curie (Hmm… what’s your secret?) Self-centered as she may seem, she is actually the best friend anyone could ever have. She’ll give you what you need if she can and help you in every way possible (generous!). Banyuhay’s top photojournalist has one advice for all of you --- live life and be pretty! |
MARVEN
GEREL CABLING y DOMINGO
“GERUNDS!!!” Meet the most promising member of the Himig Scientia (ayon sa kanya), Super Tenor! Better known as the “Mr. Chairperson-you-are-out-of-order” and dubbed as “Mr. Snob” during the QC-YMCA Baguio Conference because people say, he never smiles nor does he look approachable. But this first impression will quickly vanish after one talks to him. Cabs, as he is called, may be irritable at times but he surely knows how to laugh and make others laugh too. He is often kidded for having a receding hairline and he sometimes takes this joke a bit hard and gets angry, but he is one who never holds a grudge (mala-Tom Hanks sa Philadelphia). When you hear the Himig Scientia singing “Mabuhay ka, Pilipino,” you’ll hear a blending that goes “dumdum-dumdum”. Marven is one of those guys singing these lines, and with fervor. He’s not only a good singer but also a remarkable actor especially now that he’s the leader of the notorious Group 80 in Pinoy. By the way, he’s the most coñotic among the guys! Cabs is also the only male consistent Curian-awardee (super talino) and a man who knows how to lead. After all, he’s the outgoing QC-YMCA Supreme Student Council President. By the way, don’t ever call him Gerel (he hates that)! |
SHEILA
DIANA BOCOBO y MAMAUAG
“Jokes!” This is what she always says with her own unique intonation na walang makagaya. Shei is a girl of average height with long fine hair accentuating her slim body. But behind these admirable features lies a lady of simplicity. “Sheila Bocs” or just Bocs, may strike you as shy and timid but beware of this girl because looks can be deceiving. Unknown to many she has lots of stories to tell. Considered as Cristy Fermin’s rival, she holds a large part of Scientia’s chickas, especially about the seniors. When you get to know her better and you’ll find a very good listener, mababaw at mahilig makipaglokohan. And if you feel sad you can approach her and she’ll make you laugh with her jokes. She knows the secrets of many people because they confide in her. She has many friends from the opposite sex but she’s still very feminine. Sheila is a lady of beauty and brains yet remains very down-to-earth and friendly. |
EDMARK
LOWELL DELOS SANTOS y MACASPAC
Make way for Master Edmark! This musically-inclined and ludicrous guy has many talents that one can always depend on. One of his attributes is his voice that fits any other voice, be it alto, soprano, tenor, or bass. He also has the ability to make a dull song lively. You would hear his voice out of nowhere singing whatever song he could think of. And whenever long didactic speeches are necessary, especially during English class, this lad stands out among others because of his power to expand a certain topic. Known to be a religious person, he certainly has huge faith in God that makes him resemble a pastor at times. He’s a mythology and “grammage” freak. But this guy with a big heart is a sure friend of everybody because of his sense of humor. You can count on him for corny jokes to cheer you up and good advice that can brighten up your mood. Warning: Don’t expect too much --- he also has the unconscious tendency to make you hit the ceiling and worse, go through it too. 189 words |
LADY
FRANCES LAARNI CORPUZ y GARCIA
She is one of the “bopek” voices in Curie-IV, a member of the Times Two barkada and a certified HI (Hearing-Impaired) girl. Known for her very white and sensitive skin, she blushes easily when embarrassed. Wanee or Juwa hasn’t lost her baby fat, she’s still chubby like a baby. She’s also Curie-IV’s most religious and devout Christian, often kidded as the “Madre.” But many wonder if it’s really true. Sweet and angelic is how the seniors describe Wanee but you’re all in for a surprise --- she’s not as quiet as she seems to be for she’s a real shrieker. And don’t watch horror movies with her because she will shake you down until you can breathe no more. Wa is a true blue chatterbox and tends to veer towards the exaggerated making her perfect for the Presidency of the Drama Guild. Still, her friends trust her with their deepest, darkest secrets. (such as…) She believes that she’s the wife of MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson). She’s also a skillful player of the girls Basketball Varsity team. Guys, if you need NBA cards, just ask Wanee because she’s got a large collection of them and her favorite player is Scottie Pippen. This simple four-eyed girl brings humor and love to everyone she meets, especially with her green jokes. Many ask if Wanee is a lesbo (just ask her if she’s really one). That is because she likes to steal kisses from girls (minsan boys na rin). Also, she is not ashamed to admit na crush niya si A---, a GIRL from the pilot sections (itanong niyo na lang sa kanya kung sino). |
JEFFREY
LIBUIT y MANAOIS
In the darkness, you’ll only see his sparkling smile. Why? Because of the “steel” on his teeth. Braces. That’s Jeffrey Libuit, the junior of the famous World History mentor, Mr. Joel Semana. He collects different kinds of hats but he never uses them; he just wants to see them displayed. But if you take a closer look, Jeff is one of the most mapormang guys of the batch. You can always see him sporting his signature clothes and the latest model of rubber shoes. An undeniably intelligent student, Jeff is an expert in almost all fields of science especially Chemistry. He’s quiet but you can always depend on him in Math. At first glance, he may seem snobbish but as you get to know him, you’ll discover that he’s truly a dynamic guy. |
CHARMAINE
CRUZ y MENDOZA
The ever-smiling Chummy is always seen with her friends from different sections, year levels, races, nationalities, religions, etc. … EVERYBODY for short. If there is an award for Ms. Congeniality, she’ll surely get it. This Ara Mina look-alike (pwede ring Britney Spears) can easily be spotted on the dance floor because of her graceful hands (and butt), no wonder she’s a member of the Indak Scientia. Her husky but high-pitched voice also sets her apart. The “supposed-to-be” DOST commercial model (Waa, model daw o!) claims she hates talking on the phone (duh…) A certified NK (Nalilitong Kabataan), she is a pro- and at the same time an anti- in every discussion. This consistent Curie student awardee--- proof of her being both beauty and brains (Walang kokontra!)----is a person of eternal grins and giggles. It seems she has a knack for making herself available to anybody, and almost everybody, who needs her warm (mala-nanay) comfort. Nanay, as in motherly, in words and in figure. Almost like a paradox, her pagsesenti streaks come as often as her clients! For if Simone is our Bb. Sentenyal, and Trina is our Bb. Sentenaryo, Chummy is our Bb. Senti (as in Sentimental). Do you know that up to the last official school day, she still feels much for QueSci and its members? Talagang super-senti! Speaking of mothers, thanks to the photographer (gandaa!) |
FRANCIS
GERALD MAYUGA y TOPICO
If you’ll ever get the chance to meet Francis M. (No, not the rapper) but ‘Cis, as his friends call him, there’s only one thing you should remember: Never, ever touch his hair, for if you dare, be prepared to run, or you’re dead!!! When there is a quiz or test, especially in Match related subjects, his classmates will ask him “ ‘Cis, tabi tayo ha?,” because if he is your seatmate, you will surely get a perfect score. He owns a golden voice and he is the one who usually gives the right pitch for a song. No wonder he’s a Himig Scientia member (naks!!!). This cute(?) heartthrob is also a good basketball player, a combination of Lamont Strother’s drives and Allan Caidic’s shooting arms. He has never failed to draw girls to watch basketball games everytime he steps on the hardcourt. But everybody wonders why he can’t apply his speed in basketball when it comes to girls! |
RUTH
MARGARITA CUNANAN y MALAGDAY
Whenever you hear loud footsteps down the hall followed by an equally deafening shriek or bubbly laughter or worse, both, beware because Ruth is out to scare! She is a turkey. (she sounds, acts, and thinks like one---in Ma’am Giron’s words.) Armed with her humongous shoes (dahil talagang malaki, as in MALAKI!!!), she can get away with practically anything with just a stomp of her foot. Utay is one of those unfortunate seniors who took up Advanced Computer as her elective but she’s also lucky because she passed the subject. Emma (as in IMMATURE?), a name Jayvee christened her because she acts that way, says she’s trying her best to act more matured especially now that she’ll soon join the voting population. (Happy 18th Birthday, Utay!) Utay (or Tutay, as Sir SD always mispronounces her nickname) is gifted in arguing. Unfortunate is the soul who ventures into a debate with her as she is very good in pressing her views (Pilosopo kasi!) She belongs to a “rich” family, being one of the original coñotic members of the batch (galing kasi ng Miriam), pero nungca, kuripot yan! When you’re looking for Utay during lunchtime, you can be sure that she’s in the comfort room brushing her teeth with her ortho brush and green toothpaste. Ruth, despite her frightening and explosive gestures, is surprisingly fun that is why she attracts lots of friends and barkada. Really, Utay is super kind-hearted. One thing more, Utay , pumuti ka na in just four weeks! |
| JULIUS
NICOLAS y DULNUAN
When other people in their right minds say “hi” or “hello,” Julius is one of the Curie boys who greet friends with a snap of the fingers. He revels in his being the class “escort” and insists that he has every right to be one. He doesn’t believe people when they say that he has beautiful eyes (pa-humble effect pa!). Julius is very gifted, ang galing niya mambara lalo na kay Sir Semana. When you hear a weird banging noise from the Curie-IV room, do not run for cover for it’s only Julius playing basketball with his classmates. He is also a midfielder of the school’s ill-fated soccer team. Thus, he earns “pogi points” for being athletic. ‘Ius can sometimes be seen toting a camera. He’s just posing as a photojournalist of The Electron. A very loyal follower of Bubble Gang’s “Ang Dating Doon,” Julius likes to share with the class whatever new gag he learns. Alien!! |
MA.
AIKO ANGELA DIAZ y AYDO
If there is anybody in Quesci who doesn’t know this girl, then he/she is not a bonafide Scientian. Aiks, as she is fondly called, is the student body’s treasurer, the MYM coordinator, a Himig Scientia alto, Batch A-1 Girl and most of all, the Cor…(ooops!) Aiko is very understanding and knows how to handle situations. Thirty-five people have given their loyalty and trust to her and she deserves it. Aiks is third in a brood of four girls and she is following in the footsteps of her older sisters, which is to spend high school in Quesci and college in UP. She aspires to be a surgeon. (Ibig sabihin ba ‘nun, magda-dissect ka na naman? Hindi ka na natuto sa palaka.) Aiks is very dependable, especially in Physics and Calculus, and is a peacemaker. As a class president for two years, this secretive gal is everybody’s confidant (balak pang talunin si Helen Vela). She is a born leader, being ever responsible in class activities and active in school programs. But we wonder, despite her sickness and usually tired mind and body, why she still has the energy for CAT. |
JONATHAN
PAUL NOYNAY y SERRANO
Considered as a Calculus wizard, Curians almost failed to solve a problem because this guy was absent and no one could understand the complicated items. But behind this whiz kid who tops Math-related subjects is a weird kid with a handful of funny and incredible antics. Young as he is, Jon prides himself of being innocent of green jokes (talaga ‘yan, ha?!) Many times, he could be seen in a corner with a book such that you would mistake him for the Silent type? Nah! Jonathan is a person who, once he started talking, finds it extremely hard to stop. This notorious leader of Group 80 in Pinoy is also a trying-hard belly dancer. Before, he enjoyed playing games in Arcades but after that forgettable incident which left him with a swollen eye, he never again did set foot on those places. He used to have an aversion for Curie people, “kesyo GC daw at mayabang pa,” but now that he’s a member of the Curie family, wala siyang masabi! “Kasi, dream din pala niyang mapunta sa Curie, o, ‘di ba?” But behind this takbuhan-ng-bayan-sa-Math-problems’ childlike looks and childish ways is a guy who is very much in love with a girl he’s been eyeing since Prep. “Nakaupo siya sa isang madilim na sulok”. This Teeth song surely goes with Jon. He has lots of plans of wooing her but until now, they remain as plans (Torpe talaga!) All these will surely be missed from Jon, especially next year when he joins the tribe of taong gubat in Los Baños. |
ROSELLE
GABANI y SABULAAN
Watch out! Parating na ang “Taray Queen” ng Scientia. She seems to be “mataray” at first glance. But behind this first impression, is a different lady. Once you get to know her better, you’ll find her friendly and pretty cool. She is a good writer and is the Sports Editor of Ang Banyuhay. This small but terrible gal is also good in drawing, and you can approach her if you need help for visual aids in Filipino. Roselle may be small and fragile but her personality is far from being meek and mild. You see, when she has an enemy, she sheds her sheepish self and transforms into a tiger and an impregnable foe. |
MARLON
OCAMPO y GARCIA
Lon is the “Raymund Bagatsing” look-alike. Though he needs to put up more weight, his looks alone is enough to captivate women (di ba ---!) He’s a guy who loves to discover other people’s secrets. (We wonder why?) and he won’t stop pestering you about it until you get annoyed and finally tell him. Lon is very friendly. He’s also the Michael Jackson of Curie-IV. Lon makes a very handsome and skillful First Platoon Sergeant of the award-winning Model Company (Snappy kasi!). He can be as meek as a lamb, but when enraged, he can be mean as a grizzly bear. By the way, this stud(e) is a Math whiz, a good actor and a sporty type of guy. He’s also good in handling pencil and drawing papers. When the class plays “touch ball,” he’s the best player. He dodges the ball effectively and manages to remain unscathed and get enough points to save his teammates. Dynamic talaga! |
LILIBETH
ANNE GAHOL y PALLASIGUE |
PETER
PAUL TUZON y VILORIA
Lights…see the tall boy with glasses…dark and oozing with academic excellence, handsome and cheerful. He is none other than Pete. Don’t be deceived by his silent-type image. Despite his “di-makabasag pinggan” façade, meeting this guy means meeting your best friend because he’s a good listener and a great companion. This perfect gentleman and ever-responsible vice-president of Curie-IV is one of the brightest among the Curians. And even if he’s always busy completing his notes in Chemistry and Physics, he still has the time and space for basketball and of course, chess! Being a bona fide member of the MESX (Mga Pogi sa Scientia), he never fails to make heads turn 180 degrees when he walks by. He can beat Mr. Freeze if they will be pitted against each other in a “repressing emotions” contest. He never shows his anger when he and his members in Research engage in an argument and as always, wala siyang kakampi! Leader pa man din siya! You can always count on Pete, kasi isa siyang Superman to the rescue |
JOFRESH
LABIANO y TOLENTINO
Stunning, bewitching, and saintly --- that’s the way Jofang(et) a.k.a. Jof, sees herself. Jof believes (or is it having a delusion?) that she is the modern counterpart of Aphrodite the goddess of beauty (baka naman, si Anus, the goddess of farts and feces. FLASHBACK: First Year, Bleachers, and the confession of who did what)) and that no one can resist her oozing charisma and mala-Dawson (baka banlag) pair of eyes. She takes pride in being the tallest gal in the batch. Kidding aside, this sporty lass is really good inside out. Her notable accomplishments and consistency in both academic and non-academic performances are the reasons for her being a bonafide Curian. She always vies for the top position and marks her card with highflying grades. In class, she is well-known for being a GMRC (not the manners and conduct but Grade Maniac, Rapist, and Conscious) that distinguishes her from the others. At first glance, she seems to be a complex and kinda snobbish figure, but meeting Jof will be an experience to cherish. |
RYAN
VELASQUEZ y AYOCHOK
“Ryan, dumating ka na pala.” Ryan is almost always late for class. You’ll never know what time he’ll arrive --- five minutes before lunch or ten minutes before dismissal. Ryan Velasquez is one of Curie’s funniest people. Ha has a good sense of humor for others but he can be “pikon” sometimes. Nevertheless, he makes a very good friend. Aside from his good looks, which makes him the object of many girls’ adoring stares, he is also an excellent student. He once belonged to Darwin during first year and was awarded Model Boy, then moved to Curie-II. He has been a constant Curian since then. Ry, as he is often called, is also known as the ”daddy” of their “Research Family.” Mind you, this guy was born on Valentine’s Day. Maybe that’s one of the reasons behind his being a heartthrob (Maybe it’s even the reason why he’s “kulang-kulang”). Oh! And do you know that once, while on his way home, he was asked by a complete stranger along Visayas Avenue if he would like to be a model. (of what? briefs?) |
MERYL
MANGOSONG y MENDAROS
“Tahimik pero matinik.” That’s the phrase that would probably best describe Meryl. You’ll see her as very simple, quiet, and refined --- an embodiment of a true “dalagang Pilipina”. But as you get to know her better, you’ll realize “na malandi ‘yan.” (her friends’ actual words) She owns the hair that every frizzy-haired girl dreams of having. It’s super shiny, super soft, super ganda talaga! Anyway, Meryl is another example of a girl with a “bopek” voice, a voice na pagka-tinis-tinis. Who wouldn’t agree that Meryl is overwhelmingly brainy? Imagine, out of nowhere, this girl came surging to the Special Science Curriculum’s highest section’s top four! (Whew!) “Lady Bonnet,” as Mr. San Diego has “baptized” her, is The Electron’s Assistant Devcomm Editor and supplier of food to the adviser and staff. Anyway, Ano ba talaga ang DevComm? Talking about achievements, Meryl is also a great inventor of expressions, from “Wala lang” (please say it with feelings) to “and everything;” match it with her non-stop laughter and blushing. The result? You won’t understand any word she says. Wala lang, uhmm, (okay, sway, gently, side to side as you recite) Dada…and everything. |
JAYVEE
VILLAGRACIA y EVANGELISTA
Curie-IV’s “Kuya Cesar,” is an expert in reading, reciting, reporting (joke!) and in “pitik bulag” (seryoso ‘to!) Whether the time may be unholy or not, you could expect a lot of “bulok na banat” from Jayvee. Rotten as they might seem, his antics are surefire hits among his classmates and friends. But mind you, it’s not the jokes they laugh at but the joker himself. Jayvee, whose fave motto is “Duty first before pleasure” seems to be very carefree(?), but this guy could be as serious as the GCest members of the batch. Not that he’s grade conscious, let’s put it another way --- intelligent. That’s one good reason why it’s an advantage to have this “drowsy eyes” for a seatmate --- especially in Physics. Those who have sat beside him during Mr. Kulong’s period would agree that sitting beside Jayvee during Physics is almost synonymous to getting a lot of plusses! That is, unless he’s sleeping. Another good reason to sit beside JV is when you have colds. Why? He’s got lots of tissue paper! (Lagi kasi siyang may sipon.) This drunken shrimp (medyo lang naman) is an athlete, a wizard, comedian, pretty boy, (naka!) and a friend all rolled into one. No wonder he attracts a lot of fleeting butterflies. (Go Merl! Go Jof! Go Leah! Go Diana P! Go Trina! Go lahat!) |
MYLA
JOY MARCOS y TAMAYO
Meet Antonio Banderas’ real wife! (baka naman Ryan Velasquez’s) Gorgeous, sexy, especially in her ultra-feminine signature clothes, intriguing, thoughtful, and most of all, boyish. Because when people see her, their first comment is always the same, which is, “mas maganda si Myla kung medyo aayusin niya ang lakad niya.” No, she doesn’t really swagger when she walks, it’s just that she would look better if she would walk with more bearing and grace, then she’ll look like a princess! Anyway, she won’t get any help from her three older brothers. Myla is great in Math-related subjects but her real asset is her thoughtfulness and generosity. Siya ang dakilang supplier ng yema at pastillas especially for her barkada (Times Two). Joy is very bright, she qualified for a full scholarship in Ateneo. “Malakas ding tamaan ng topak si Myla, kung anu-anong ginagawa!” Whatever flaw is there in the way she walk, is overshadowed by her smile, her wit, her humor, her laughter, and her SCREAM!!! |
MELODY
MOGATAS y BENABAYE
Another case of the brains-and-beauty.(Duh!). But what makes her stand out from the rest of the brainy beauties is her responsibility to deliver the valedictory address. The “gatas” in her surname could be the main factor why she’s so smart. And it could also be a factor for her being chosen as a contestant in a nutrition contest during the freshman year. Most of the time, Melo is seen studying or writing or copyreading articles, being the Chief Editor of The Electron. Of course that is if Sir SD is not in a bad mood and she is in the front line of the adviser’s tirade, parang shock absorber. If she is not doing those Electron stuffs, she’s chatting with her friends about the four-letter word that makes the world go round and about anything under the sun. She has different kinds of laughter for different occasions --- may nakakaloko, may nakakainis at pang-inis, at siyempre, mawawala ba naman ang from the heart na love laugh of Melo. Melo is also good in cooking and in baking cookies and pastries kasi ang sarap ng kanyang everyday baon (baka naman si Tita Delia ang naghanda…). And she is gifted with a wonderful singing voice. Remember her solo lines during the Math Jingle? And what is this once-upon-a-time thing about being a contract singer in Uncle Bob’s Lucky 7 Club? Because of her seemingly superior attitude, a lot of people are easily intimidated. She may look serious. But she also has her wild side. She may strike you as a quiet lady, but in reality, she’s very talkative. She may appear nerdy, but she is one sporty individual. Now that’s our Melo! |
SHARON
ROSE MASULA y ALOMBRO
Whenever you hear a boisterous and loud laughter, Sharon or Shaoi, is just around. This charming and friendly gal has a superb way of making everyone, especially her Times Two barkada, laugh. She’ll drive you crazy with her wild and funny stories, jokes, and “chickas.” This girl is very carefree that when everybody has panicked, she remains cool. (Grace under pressure?) Shaoi is a born journalist. She is a good writer and she loves to write in our own Filipino language. She has achieved quite a lot in the field of journalism. She is one of only two Scientian delegates to the National Secondary Schools Press Conference (nakaabot pa siya sa Isabela); has won various journalism contests; and a two-time Teodoro F. Valencia Search for Outstanding Journalists awardee. And as Editor-in-chief of Ang Banyuhay (na tambay ng Electron Staff room, Sir Casas, hindi ba kayo natatakot? Baka palitan na kayo ni Sharon), her place in QueSci’s history is secured. And why not? It was during her tenure that the Banyuhay made it to the top three during the NSPC (a first in QueSci’s history), and sparked a rebirth of sorts (naks!). Aside from these, she’s also the ever-busy President of Zone-IV and the Corps S3 (Programs of Operation and Training Officer) of the CAT-I Corps of Officers ‘98-’99.Yun lang naman ang kanyang mga pinaggagagawa sa QueSci. Every Tuesday, boses niya ang pinakahihintay ng mga kadete. Paano, siya ang tagasigaw ng, “Time na, time na!” Shaoi is a Filipino at heart because what seems to be a “never-heard” Tagalog word to many (‘yung nakikita sa Noli o sa El Fili) is just a speck of dust in her Filipino vocabulary. Aba, magaling din siyang sumayaw, isa ngang “Pepito!” |
DIANA
APRIL PERRAL y PALAY
One look at her and you’ll see that this girl has charm. Ask ‘toot’ and ‘toot’, they’ll surely agree. And why not? She’s got cute, fluffy hair, a slim figure (maliit kasi ang bituka) and a natural pa-cute personality. She loves to play with her hair and fix it every moment. Practically every free time is spent fixing her hair. Diana P. also seems to know a lot about Jayvee (bakit kaya?). Diana is very mahinhin but when she is with her Groupmates in Research, she turns insane, ready for a fight against their leader. She also has talent. She loves to sing “Because of You,” the hits of Boyzone, Spice Girls, etc. with matching feelings. She loves to dance even without music but her dancing abilities are at its best when the music is “Pepito!” As The Electron’s “responsible” news editor, her job is to assign other staffers news stories to cover. Funny, she almost always ends up doing the job herself. If not for her skill in news brief writing things may not turn out right. More than anything else, Diane is a nice person and can be the coolest friend you can have. |
CAMILLE
ERIKA PARAGAS y LIM
Warning: If you just failed a test, don’t go near Erika. She will only make you feel worse. She thinks she’s the lowest form of life in spite of her brains, beauty, piles of achievements in Math and Journalism, and her Kid Listo title. BIG TIME! So, what does that make out of us if she’s a loser? Aside from these desirable attributes, Kakang is also a great friend with a big heart who has good principles in life. She handles pressure with a big smile and fights depression with a quick look at Edmark’s funny Press ID picture. If you happen to eat pizza with her, she will give you the bigger slice and if the number of slices is odd, you can have the extra slice (selfless baga, ‘di naman pumapayat). Kakang is the dakilang, as in heroic, scriptwriter of the Group 80 in Pinoy. Kaya, the best talaga siya! Boys? That’s definitely out of her mind…uh, usually. She has relatively few crushes and seems to care more for her computer than them guys. In fact, with her knowledge about her PC, she might be a good Computer Engineer someday. Erika may have had ups and downs, lefts and rights, norths and souths, but she’ll always be the same good old Erika that we know. |
MA.
SOL RIVERO
Simplicity is beauty. Masol is the proof. Being simple, modest, and sweet, this fair-skinned chinita has attracted many guys. In short, heartthrob po! Hindi ninyo alam, ano? She is also known for being quiet but mind you, spending half an hour with her will get you sore ears and/or aching stomach, nahawa siguro, anong say ninyo Times Two? When Sol is excited or frightened, like the time she watched “Scream” with her friends, her friends ended up dizzy, deaf, and bruised from Sol’s trashing and screaming. Ang lakas niyang pumalo, sa ulo pa ‘yun, ha. The Curie-IV guys said that when Sol is her quiet self, the sound she makes is 20 decibels but when she laughs it shoots up to 120db. Having a nice penmanship and being responsible, Sol was elected class secretary. If you think that she has a lot of calluses because of that, well, think again! Our light-brown-haired friend owns slender candle-shaped aristocratic fingers which every woman dreams of having. Sol is Ang Banyuhay’s science editor and also a member of the school’s swimming varsity. You should see her swim, in a bathing suit and you would go gaga over her (if you’re a guy, anyway); she’s definitely slim and sexy. To you Masol, these are our last words: Don’t you ever be afraid, CK will surely come to the rescue! |
DIANA
ROSE RANOA y EVANGELISTA
She is Scientia’s Lucy Lawless a.k.a. Xena, the great warrior princess. Among their similarities are their gorgeous bodies (especially the rear end) and big voices. You can see her jogging around Quesci with her COCC’s trailing behind chanting, “Mabuti pa ang mag-asawa, umaga pa lang nakapatong na.” She’s not only the COCC OIC but also the most EX-Otic among the CAT Officers. Jana or Jang of the Times Two barkada is also Zone IV Orderliness Officer. That’s why she looks intimidating at first but she has her wild streaks and she’s the leader of Curie-IV’s HI’s, the Hearing Impaired. Little Ms. Madriaga has many responsibilities and she manages her time well and is very organized. She likes to have color in her life especially in her notebooks with the aid of her metal pen collection. She’s a girl who rose from the ranks proving that accredited students can also make it to the top. And when it comes to map-reading Jana, is the best. Though she’s dubbed as a warrior princess, she’s romantic at heart and collects romance novels. Jana is also a good actress. No one will ever forget her role as Rose and her steamy intimate scene with Ryan V. as Jack. Just a reminder, when she’ s in a bad mood, don’t dare talk to her or you’ll end up dead! |
PATRICIA
GRACE SIRINGAN y SAPINOSO
Pat never lets a day pass by without laughing, talking, shouting at the top of her lungs, and saying “Hi, hello, or AYYY!!!” to almost everyone in QueSci. She’s undeniably the most talkative gal in Curie-IV who rattles off lines, comments and questions at breakneck speed. Ironically, she’s also one of the class’ Hearing-Impaired. You will never get bored with her stories. Her fluency in English and her friendly personality has made her P.R.O. of various organizations and served as her meal ticket to many English oriented-competition. She is the copy editor of The Electron. Being the CAT-I S5 likewise made her visible on campus. You can see her dashing around the campus due to her numerous extra-curricular activities. A purple lover, she is probably the only “Moffatts” fanatic in Curie. When you watch a movie with her, expect to see her eyes red, wide, puffy and teary. She describes herself as wild, on the dance floor that is, and every time she feels pressured. She is a (hopeless?!) romantic and believes that she’s a reincarnation of a past century European princess. No wonder she knows so much about European history, especially that of Queen Elizabeth I, and Greek mythology. Ask her anything about these subjects and you’ll get a very precise and animated answer. Like a princess, she has a flair for fashion and has an artistic way of styling her wild, fuzzy, fluffy, frizzy and unruly hair. Many wonders where she puts all the food she gobbles up because she maintains her “Coca-cola” figure (1960s model). However, she insists that she’s getting fat. (What do you say?) |
SHIELA
SESBREÑO y SAES
Ses, from her surname, is another example of the typical Curian girl --- responsible, industrious, hardworking, and all those academic-related virtues. A consistent Curian, she has distinguished herself in the field of numbers --- that’s why she will take Business Administration and Accountancy in college. But no, she’s not completely consumed in the world of academics. A Rapunzel with black hair instead of gold, Shiela belongs to the spiritual league of Witnesses, ripe with Biblical wisdom and doctrine. She has great faith in God and when she believes, she believes with CONVICTION! That’s why, together with her Research group mates, she often clashes with their leader. She is musically inclined having been bestowed with an alto voice |
