Artwork & Doodles

This section contains various artwork: from actual drawings and sketches from my art class, to classnote doodles. This section will probably never be complete as long as I'm still in school and still bored in my classes. Next to each thumbnail image is either a description of the image, a story behind the image, or both. Most of the images have been resized for faster loading times, smaller file sizes, and browser-friendliness (so that you aren't scrolling, scrolling, scrolling to the end of the image). Enjoy!

This is my first copy of a drawing done during the time that we were copying "master drawings." Click here to see the original drawing to compare. I used an ebony pencil on regular drawing paper. The grid is supposed to be there because that's the way we were taught to accurately (well, almost) copy drawings. I think it came out pretty good but my art teacher would tell you differently...his exact words: "It's a good likeness." Yeah, good likeness my ass, it's pretty damn good for a first copy.

This is my second copy of a painting done during the time that we were copying "master paintings." Click here to see the original painting to compare. This was done using fine charcoal on charcoal drawing paper. Fine charcoal yields nice results but it is such a pain to work with because it's messy. And then you have to use this fixer stuff to make sure that it stays on the paper...smells like nail polish remover but a little worse.

This is actually my second self-portrait. I wanted to put up my first but I think this one came out better anyway. It was a little difficult seeing as how we had to position ourselves in such a way to get some sort of light/dark contrast thing goin' on. We then looked into these dirty, scratched up mirrors to do the portrait. This was done using fine charcoal on charcoal drawing paper. The only thing I don't like about this drawing is the eyes, they're so hard to draw.

This is one of the many still life drawings I've done in my drawing class. It's probably not one of the greatest but the teacher never really gave us anything interesting to draw. Stuffed birds, old pots, spoons, plaster heads and bodies, fruit, pitchers, and bottles are not interesting objects to me. I believe this is one of the later still life drawings that involved us covering the entire piece of charcoal paper with fine charcoal and then erasing the light parts. Whatever.

This is another still life but I actually remember this time that it was my second one. I used an ebony pencil on regular drawing paper. This is the medium I prefer mainly because if I screw up I can just erase and try again. Fine charcoal also erases rather easily as long as you don't press too hard. Problem with that though is that it erases too easily sometimes and if you rub your hand over one side of the drawing while drawing something else, you may have just erased half your drawing. It's really not that hard to work with but pencil is still easier for me. Don't you just love my drawing of that plaster head? I should have tossed it across the room at the end of the year.

This is the last drawing in a series of 10 minute sketches of our classmates. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the girl in this drawing but I do remember it being my last. It didn't come out too bad but the teacher had to go move the light source half way through so it didn't come out exact. This is also done in ebony pencil on paper from our sketch books.

This is the second drawing in a series of 10 minute sketches of our classmates. Don't ask me his name, I don't know it either. It was kinda weird having to model for the class. I remember I just kinda sat and stared off into space...well, we were supposed to act natural and that's what I do on a regular basis! This is also pencil ebony on paper.

This is the first drawing in a series of 10 minute sketches of our classmates. Hey! For once, I know the person in this drawing. It's my anime-cartoon-Simpsons-Futurama-Undergrads-(and I think there's some more)-obsessed friend, Scott. He was the lucky first person to have to go through with this modeling deal. It didn't come out too bad but it isn't complete. And, as usual, I didn't do the model justice...yeah, Scott, we all know you're cuter than that *wink wink* ^_^. The teacher said it was, and I quote, "fun." Yeah, why don't you go back to sniffing that charcoal fixer, Taylor.
