Jane's
Approach to Doula Work
Jane began doula work when asked to attend a medical qi gong
client�s birth. Now a certified birth doula, she has been
�mothering the mother� since January 2005, and has attended
hospital, home, and water births.
She provides
doula services for the greater Sacramento area, from Elk Grove
to Auburn on up to the current snow line on Hwy 80, to Folsom
and El Dorado Hills on Hwy 50, and to Yuba City on Hwy 65.
Beyond Birth Plans
A key emphasis are pre-natal consultations that ensure that
mothers and partners have the confidence and skills to labor
productively. Jane holistically devotes time to your
physical, emotional, and spiritual issues surrounding
childbirth.
Deep Relaxation
According to Jane, this is the absolute key to successful
laboring. She allots most of one appointment to deepening or
developing deep relaxation practices. Qi gong visualizations
can also be provided. Jane also offers private instruction of
pre-natal qi gong movements and will offer a six weeks group
class series in the near future.
Jane incorporates acupressure sessions into the doula work,
enhancing relaxation and healing. One session is provided
near the 38 week mark, to open and clear the channels for
labor, and one post partum healing session to help clients
regain and rebalance their energies. Additional sessions are
available.
Partners are supported. Jane welcomes partners at all
appointments, and supports the partners during labor, working
to enhance their experiences at their comfort levels of
participation. Partners are welcome to schedule qi
gong/acupressure sessions for themselves and to attend qi gong
instruction.

Standard Doula Package $750
This
package includes:

At least three pre-natal
appointments to cover your birthplan, review your relaxation
practices/visualizations, and then a relaxing pregnancy
bodywork session.

Continuous attendance during labor and delivery through the
initial bonding hour.

Two
post-partum appointments to review your experiences, and a
balancing post-partum bodywork session.
Jane also
provides belly casting, best performed at 38-39 weeks for a
rate of $60 plus materials (approx. $15).
Jane is
committed to making doula services accessible to all women.
She feels that having doula attendance is so important to the birthing experience. She accepts barter, offers a
sliding scale, and can provide a more basic package if needed
to make doula attendance more affordable.
Post-partum doula services during the first week after birth
are available, providing support as parents gain confidence in
their new duties, Services may include light housekeeping,
meals, attending baby or other children in the home. $30/hr by
pre-arrangement.
The usual
$60 per hour qi gong instruction rate is discounted to $50 per
hour with the purchase of doula services.
