Lots of parties and good weather, this summer; Vancouver eventually had garden watering restrictions! (The normal autumn weather started early in
October though). Unfortunately, as usual, many of the fun events were NOT captured on film. But we still have some good pics.
A friend's birthday party at Chaldecott Park was one of our best outings in August. It's a nice park for small kids, with both water play (spray) area,
and a playground close by. (And wild blackberries growing just down the block, for adults interested in a walk!). Tim and Megan had a fabulous time,
especially with the delicious chocolate ice-cream birthday cake on that hot day. (Hats and sunscreen were a must!).
Tim's birthday party (the day before Sept 8th), was a rather cool, drizzly morning, so we had his close friends all bouncing around in our apartment.
Tim had especially asked for a Magic School Bus cake, which Pia and I put together (using a bit of imagination), and it was a success all around (except
when Tim wanted to eat some - he didn't want any icing!). It was quite a wild morning, although it was dry enough later for them to all head down to Trimble Park and work off a bit of steam there.
We took a few more pics from that same afternoon, which was the Belgian Canadian association annual family picnic get-together, held at a member's house in Surrey this year (an hour's drive away).
Pia enjoyed chatting with the Dutch-speaking folks there, and Tim and Megan enjoyed swimming in the pool and hot-tub. Megan really got stuck into the
frites with mayonnaise, I had to stop bringing her more! (Maybe it was those cute cocktail forks...) Still, the lollipops were even better, in her opinion. (Tim ate his within two minutes, while Megan savoured hers over about 20m).
Tim also had an accident later where he fell into the footbath outside the pool; fortunately, we did have a complete change of clothes.
As a special treat for Tim (and us), we took a few days off later that week, for a visit to Crash Crawleys (they loved it), and a three-night stay in
Harrison Hotsprings. Tim and Megan had their own beds in an adjoining room, the room was great (albeit expensive). Aside from the fabulous sand-castles,
the big draw for us was the hotel pools (there are 5, fed by the hotsprings and lake water). We went swimming two or three times a day, including after
dark, and even in the rain on the last day. The warm water was just perfect for the kids, and they loved pretending to be little salmon fishies.
Tim and Megan are keen to go back some day.
