Summer 2003

Long time with no photos, for some reason. Perhaps we were just too exhausted to think about taking the camera on outings. On the other hand, most outings were to the regular places: trains, playgrounds, kids shops, etc. - nothing exciting. (In most cases the video camera is better suited to capturing special moments for small, active kids.)
Anyway, this is just the first set of pics from Summer so far; more due soon at the rate I've been snapping recently.

Summer in Vancouver is really wonderful. It is worth the sunscreen and hats (almost every day) to be able to go play outside in light, comfortable clothes for once (no jackets!). The forest path through to the UBC daycares is also a good place to pick salmonberries or huckleberries en route, and Tim and Megan are looking forward to the blackberries later on. (The Camosun Bog nearby also has blueberries, and they love picking them!). Outings to the beach are a must, and all the tourist attractions - and trains! - are open - many such places close down for the winter. And you shouldn't forget icecreams and popsicles on those hot evenings!

The first weekend of Summer is also Fiesta day in Point Grey, and Tim was much better able to enjoy the rides and festivities this year. (Megan had fun too but also had a four-hour nap that afternoon, missed her chance for more rides). Summer has also been a wonderful time for enjoying many birthday parties, playing with friends, and seeing new parts of town (or seeing them in a new light).

More pics added from July. Tim and Megan have been going out a LOT on weekends, to birthday parties (mostly daycare friends) and picnics (some organised by Pia). The gorgeous weather has helped.

May 2003. Snack time in Stanley park; Pia made waffles! Granville Island, waterplay area. The game is to squirt others while staying dry yourself... June, Granville St Vancouver. Waiting for the 98b express bus; why not sit up top? June 20, Trimble Park. The scary Crocodile ride from the Fiesta fairground. Tim said STOP! and got off. June 21, Trimble Park (Fiesta day). The old toys still have their fascination. Storytime at home. Tim and Megan enjoy the Timmy the Tugboat series. June 28. Megan loves to dress up, and pounced on these Fancy Lady shoes at a birthday party. June 30. Stanley Park pool - both kids loved the slide. Warm water too! June 30. Tim practising his starfish floating technique. June 30. Pia had to be within arms reach of Megan at all times. Reading Timmy the Boat stories. Tim plays at being the ships cat. July 1, Canada Day. This tired Canadian fell asleep on the electric tram. Saturday July 5. Megan at a birthday party on the beach. July 5, Jericho beach (party). A gorgeous evening, both had a great time. July 5. Eating birthday cake on the beach. July 5. Megan loves playing with wet sand at the waters edge, throwing it in the waves. July 5. Megan on the beach, view of Vancouver in background. July 5. Megan made her own pretend birthday cake with stick candles, and sang the song etc. many times! Saturday July 19. Picking wildflowers at the UBC Farm market. July 19, UBC Farm. Sunday July 20, Trimble Park. Megan played wonderfully with her friend at the playground. July 20. Pretending (I hope) to eat sticks in the playground. Saturday July 26, Spanish Banks. Tim preferred digging into the sand, not the picnic dinner. July 26. Having huge fun at the waters edge again!
