Pixel Roller - A New Art Tool

Mixed media design collective rAndom International, based in London (UK) and Berlin (Germany) have thought out a clever tool for artists, that combines electronic art with old-fashioned handwork: the Pixel Roller.
It's like an electronic version of the paint roller: with ultra bright uv leds you paint an image on light-sensative ink. Go have a look for this and other interesting ideas at this site:

The Gates

There's a lot of fuzz these days about the Gates project of
Christo and Jean-Claude in the Central Park, New York. Personally I find this project full of emptiness. Christo and his partner are doing a decoration, because they don't have the inspiration to create a real piece of art.
Their works of the past, the wrapping projects, had a certain monumental character, but this is so vain. Famous artists can probably get away with this and maybe they need the money for a comfortable retirement, but these millions of dollars could have been spent so much better on more talented artists.
Now there's a lot of hype about nothing and I feel the need for some parody, which you will find if you follow the links below.

Minimal Music

Recently I found some short
arty movies with minimal music.
One is a promotional music video for the ColdCut track titled 'Music for 18 Musicians' on the 'Reich Remixed' album. I suppose Reich refers to
Steve Reich, a famous minimal music artist.
The other is a shorty about water with music by
Philip Glass, from 'Einstein on the Beach'.

Will Simpson : a visual journal

This time I want to point you to Will Simpson, a very modest but nevertheless talented
photographer and woodworker.
He shows his photographs on his weblog, with an audio-comment to it.
And his stunning wooden art objects can be found elsewhere.

Richard Bolam's Hyperscape

The british artist Richard Bolam creates
generative art with ancient Mac Classics and Hypercard, an interactive multimedia program abandoned by Apple. Hyperscape 1 is an art installation with 8 compact Macs, one running a hypercard program written by Bolam that determines the output on the other 7 Macs. These interact with the input and the result is an abstract, continuous changing pattern of shapes.
His new project
Hyperscape 2 is a similar installation but now with sound interaction between 8 Macs.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Today I found news about Leonardo Da Vinci, the
italian Renaissance artist:
a
workshop of Da Vinci was discovered in Florence, in the Santissima Annunziata convent. It has murals with figures that resemble drawings in Da Vinci's 'codex' and a painting in the Uffizi gallery. There is speculation that Da Vinci  may have met Lisa Gherardini here. The family of the assumed model for the 'Mona Lisa' had a chapel in the convent.

More about Da Vinci:
Did you read '
The Da Vinci Code' by Dan Brown and want to see the 'Mona Lisa'? It's at the Louvre in Paris, France, and this museum has a website where you can see (quicktime) virtual rooms of the museum. At the moment it's temporarily shown in the Rosa room (Denon wing - 1st floor - room 13), which is also represented on the web.
