Twinkie Fresh

Week 8: The owners of the Michigan Twinkies and the Seattle Skunks have a storied rivalry. Back in Week Two, the Skunks and the Twinkies faced off for the first time this season and it turned into a Skunk blowout. The defending champs vowed revenge and they were able to earn the much valued division "W" this week, defeating the Skunks 247-241.

The messageboard lit up early in the week, with Seattle owner vowing another blowout by the start of the weekend. That was not the case, but the Skunks did hold a 30 point lead heading into the last two days of the contest. The problem lied in the Skunk pitching staff, who after all 7 available pitchers played Friday night were only able to muster 70 points on the night. Meanwhile, Michigan's bats came alive and was able to give support to the Twinkie's pitching staff to keep the match close.

Over the weekend, the Twinkie's bats stayed alive. Team Captian Pujols lead the way jacking three homeruns over the weekend, inspiring newly acquired Ibanez (drafted in the 13th round by the Skunks in the 2004 draft) to jack a couple himself. It was an emotional week for Ibanez, who was signed this week to fill the hole left by injured Catalanotto.

"I just wanted to prove to Mr. Quick that I still could contribute to a top class organization. When I was dumped at the beginning of the month I was shocked. He wasn't paying me jack as it was and I had to live off the cochroaches and rats that littered my parents' house until someone signed me. I wanted to teach him a lesson. When Mr. Head signed me this week, it was the perfect oppotunity to show my stuff. Just like Tejada last year, I will raise my stock again in my new home, and that ***hole can watch another Sol Series come to Michigan off the bat of one of his discards."
The Seattle PR department would not say much on the matter of Ibanez signing with Michigan and basically costing them the week. "Ibanez did not fit into our system. Before this week, we were undefeated in the Mars. The Skunks still lead the division. I see no issue."

The Skunks are set up for a huge matchup in week nine. The Hummels Wharf Braves come into town with the Mars division lead on the line. Michigan also will be faced with a tough Rocko Leopard team that leads the Venus division.

Chicago 258, Atlanta 210
Despite calling out the league leader, the Force was not able to call out their players enough to beat the undefeated team. Chicago quietly erased the Monday lead and kept the pressure on the Force all week to beat the force by almost 50 points. The trade between these two teams a few weeks ago (Sheets for Dotel) had little impact in this game. Sheets provided modest points, and Dotel came close to matching him. Atlanta looks to rebound back to their winning ways as they face Cranville next week. Chicago looks to break the best start record that the 2003 Wisconsin team holds by winning next week against that very team, the Wannabes.

Rocko 216, Wisconsin 178
Rocko continues their dominance over the Venus division and now with five wins is looking to be the frontrunner to claim their first Venus divison crown. Wisconsin, on the other hand, is still trying to right their ship and repeating as Division champ is starting to look out of reach. They don't have much time to fix things, as they get the best team in the league next week in Chicago. Rocko will face Michigan in the "who's your daddy" game.

Hummels Wharf 258, Providence 223
It was a strong effort out of Providence, who midway through the week looked to have this game locked up. The Braves closed the gap and took the lead over the Plague when they had an outstanding pitching performance out of Lima and Gagne Saturday. Providence will take on her out of division nemisis when she faces Guam next week. Hummels Wharf will take on Seattle with the division lead on the line.

Guam 226, Dundee 123
After last week, many league observers were starting to think that the Hillbillies had finally arrived. This week, they reverted back to the Dundee of old failing to break the 150 point mark for the 6th time. Guam keeps churning out decent but not great numbers like they have all season long. Next on the plate is the Plague. Dundee will have their hands full and pockets empty when the Hustlers come into town.

Miami 204, Cranville 140
Two teams that have been down on their luck after a impressive and fast start to the season. Miami gets the nod here as it seems as though the Euchres are having a rougher time than anyone could have imagined. The Hustlers have what appears a week off when they entertain the Dundee Hillbillies, while Cranville has to step up against the always loud and dangerous Colonel of Atlanta.
