Elaine Bailey
Elaine Bailey is a relative newcomer to the world of dressage. She grew up riding Western Pleasure, and trail riding in SC. She was familiar with handling horses, as her family bred Appaloosas during her childhood, and owned a number of other breeds and crossbreds. To give her funds for college, she sold her Quarter Horse, Little Joe, just before entering Clemson University. She made a mental note that . . . "some day I hope to get another horse, and return to my hobby of riding." During her college days, she worked with Clemson's beef cattle herd, and frequently rode horses to work the cattle. While she had ridden a variety of horses, including one of the family's two Appaloosa stallions, her father's Thoroughbred, and a number of other crossbreds, Elaine had never even sat in an English saddle on or off a horse, until about the year 2000. The University of Maryland's Equestrian Club students coaxed her "back into the saddle," after a LOT of years away from horses, but this time it was an English saddle. She wondered how in the world she'd stay in that saddle that was shaped somewhat like a canned potato chip. Her very patient student instructors explained that "balance" was the magic ingredient. The students worked with her and and they were instrumental in having her find that it was time to return to her hobby of horseback riding on a more frequent scale. It seems that some of the students relished the time they got to "reverse roles" with Bailey, when she became the student and they the teachers, since Bailey is a faculty member at the University of Maryland College Park. She currently owns and shows her Thoroughbred x Dutch Warmblood gelding, Java, and is working to learn the nuances and beauty of dressage.

Christina Dale
Christina's riding foundation is in hunter/jumper and eventing. While working with the Andalusian stallions at Medieval Times she was introduced to dressage. Christina found Peanut, her Percheron stallion, in Pontotoc, Mississippi where he was being used as a stud and event horse...not to mention to occasional fox hunt! Christina and Peanut compete at hunter and dressage shows and they hope to get to a combined training event this year too. Christina is also our chapter secretary and a professional photographer. A former hunter/jumper competitor, track TB exerciser and polo trainer, Chris switched to dressage when she "got tired of landing on my head". She has spent 6 years on the PVDA board of directors, is a former member of the board of the American Hanoverian Society and has served as the USDF Region 1 treasurer. Chris is currently serving on the USDF finance committee.Bentwood Farm

Kelly
Kelly recently joined the PVDA Calvert county Chapter. She has been riding for about two years now. Her mom and dad got her a horse in September. Since then, she has worked with her horse, named Cherokee. Cherokee is an 8 year old Arabian rescued from an auction house. We got him from University of Maryland where Elaine Bailey and Erin Peterson (Kelly's cousin) work. Kelly really enjoys being in this chapter and enjoys all of the meetings during dinner.
