Fifty long years have passed since the great Meteor Crisis, as it was called, threatened the Planet. Many heroes and villains arose in the time after the crisis, some forgotten, some remembered, but all remember the feats of the legendary heroes known as AVALANCHE. As time passed the many heroes of the Planet have grown old in the era of peace that eventually came round.

Many changes have happened in the last 50 years. Cid Highwind created Highwind Enterprises which became the leader in aerospace and aerodynamics. Mideel has become the fore runner in the medical sciences and pharmaceuticals due to the rich plant life found in the nearby jungles. ShinRa Inc. is virtually non existent, due to in fighting and a massive earthquake that reduced Midgar to one big slum, where you can get almost anything and anyone for a price. Wutai has grown into what it once was a land of warriors with a strong culture. What was most unexpected was Gongaga's amazing strength of growth. After the Meteor crisis Gongaga had an economic boom specializing in technologies that did not use Mako, since the town was almost destroyed by a Mako reactor meltdown. Soon Gongaga became the most prosperous city on the Planet and the powerhouse of the new era.

In this new age of technology and magic, trouble is stirring. New enemies have started moving in the underground slums of Midgar. A mysterious organization has started to move against all those who would use materia. New enemies are arising and a darkness is starting to shroud the once blue skies of the Planet. Curious new adventures are beginning to leave their hometowns and setting out on journeys to find themselves and their purpose. A new era is arising on the Planet. Will you be recorded in the history books as a hero or a villain in this new age?
