Dear Jeff,
I have a co-worker who I just can't seem to get along with.  He does so many things that just annoy me to no end.  He's forever singing (usually ONE line from the SAME song over and over and over),  he has a tendency to stare at me for a long period of time, without my knowledge, for some creepy reason, and he constantly talks on AIM while at work~taking MY Internet.  He's a great guy and good at his job for the most part, but I didn't sign up for a co-worker like him when I took my job, so I don't know what to do.  And to make matters worse, we're getting a new SMALLER office this week for only the two of us.  Lord help me.  Please help me get over these issues with him and let me know what I should do in this situation.  Thank you so much.  I am forever indebted to you for your expert advice.
-Intern at Wits End
PS:  I'd also like to comment  on your first Dear Jeff entry from the piano, chess, and video game playing guy from JMU.  You told him that buying a star for a girl is a "DO"...but I didn't appreciate your sarchastic remarks after it.  Buying a star for a girl is a very sweet and thoughtful idea, and I hope I am only lucky enough one day to have a guy buy one for me.  (And no, I...er, I mean girls do not get all dumb middle-schoolish about it.  Watch the movie punk...or else learn a thing or two about being a real "ladies man")
Dear Whiny Intern,
I'd like to start off by saying that I do not know you or the intern that you're complaining about so I'm going to answer this email as objectively as possible.  Now this intern of whom you speak seems like a really great guy.  I'm not sure what the trouble is between you two.  But let's take a look at all of your complaints and see what we can find out...
1.He's forever singing (usually ONE line from the SAME song over and over and over)
Now I don't know you or this other intern at all, but from what I can gather about him, I would think this guy has a wonderful, wonderful singing voice.  I'm sure women come from all around just to hear a mere vocalization come from his lips, much less actual singing.  And here you get to hear him sing an actual song?!?  And more than once?!?  I'm not sure what problem you have with auditory perfection....but I think the problem lies with you.  Not with him.  Let's practice some introspection.  (Socrates anybody?...anybody? -sigh-)
2.He has a tendency to stare at me for a long period of time, without my knowledge, for some creepy reason
I'd like to repeat that I do not know you or him, but from how you talk about him (and from my own intuition) I get the feeling that this is one pretty attractive fellow.  I can picture (and of course this is mere speculation) that women all over the world picture that one man....that one Mr. Right that is everything they could ever want in a man....and that man's face would sum up everything that is right in the world.....ahhhh.....that's the face I picture this intern having.  A face fit for fantasization.  I'm sure women fall all over themselves just to get a mere glimpse of this visage...much less eye contact.  And here you are with the downright blessing of having a countenance such as his, looking directly at you for more than a brief moment....and you're complaining?!?  Once again I don't know what you have against visual euphoria, but I don't think you should be pawning it off on this innocent intern.
3.He constantly talks on AIM while at work~taking MY Internet
Now I'd like to reiterate (for the last time) that I do not know either of these interns, nor their situation.  That being said..... IT'S NOT YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION!  NEW OFFICE, ONLY ONE INTERNET CONNECTION, SO IT'S FIRST COME FIRST SERVE!  CAN I HELP IT THAT I GET TO WORK BEFORE YOU DO? NO!  SO YOU'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO GET OVER IT!  ::ahem::  I don't know what came over me.  Please disregard the use of personal pronouns....I don't know either intern or their situation.
Now I don't want you to think I'm not on your side, Whiny Intern.  I have some helpful advice on how to get him.  Ready?  You're really going to have to go with me on this one.....You should quit!  Yeah!  Leave with that big office all to himself and an undisputed internet connection.  That'll show him!  Oh! And if you REALLY want to get him, get your boss to give him YOUR paycheck!  Yeah!  Then he'd feel really bad about the whole thing...especially when he's spending your money.  That's the perfect revenge.  Glad I could help.  Until next email....
Jeff
Oh! and P.S.-Get over the movie....it's a movie!  He did not really give her a star!  It was scripted!  If anything you should be in love with the story...or maybe even the author...but not the freakin' movie!  Some people need to live their own lives instead of letting actors do it for them....oh that reminds me...I've got to go see Daredevil soon.  Wonder when it's playing?  Gotta go check, bye.
