In 6th grade I met my best friend Lindsay (Linz) and she brought me to the barn she took lessons at. I signed up for lessons that day and stayed at that barn for close to 3 years. There I met one of Linz's friends, Sarah. The summer before 8th grade Sarah was riding a horse at a private barn where her aunt boarded her horse. Linz had just started to ride Sarah's aunt's horse and the owner of the barn, Kathy had just bought a new pony after her old one sadly passed away at a ripe old age (I'm not sure exactly how old, but around 40). I was invited to go ride this adorable new pony one day and it was love at first sight. I am still riding Sassy. I also ride 2 other horses at her barn; Shautohn and Shaharazide.
In 1999 Kathy rescued 4 miniature horses from a neglective home. She sold one to a friend but still has the other 3: "Mother", "Baby", and Punk
In 2001 I started working at another private barn in Sandwich. The owner plays polo and has 7 Thoroughbreds (Iris, Mistress Quickly, Puff-A-Wheelie, Fame, Flip, Morning Glory, Dirty Harry) and 1 Quarter Horse (Phoenix). The last 2 years I was working on getting 5 of them ready for the polo season and went to Newport, Rhode Island with him as his groom 3 days every week from May through the end of the summer. I also ride one of his other mares, Flip and give his 2 daughters riding lessons when I'm around.
I rode at UMASS Amherst my freshman year ('01-'02) and was on the Equestrian team there. It was a lot of fun and I rode well (I rode in 4 shows placing 2nd at 2 of them, and 3rd and 4th at the other 2, each out of about 8 or 9 riders).
In February 2002 I started riding a new horse Dillon. He's a great boy..great personality and tons of fun on the trails! Check out his link to learn a little more about him. This summer (2003) I'm heading up to Briar Hill Farm in Vermont to train Norwegian Fjord ponies. I'm looking forward to living on the 50 acre farm on top of a mountain surrounded by other mountains...the view is to die for. I'll be taking pictures and posting them as soon as I get up there ;)
