The breeze flowed through her long red hair as lifted her head up from her book - feeling the coolness of a shadow standing behind her. To her annoyance, she turned around to look at none other then James Potter.

RP Whats the Point ?

Looking around at the house common rooms, the staff has noticed the lack in effort and content in RP. Seems somewhere along the lines – the definition of RP was switched around in order to fit the needs of those who may not have had much experience with it. So we’ve decided to put together a little guide and helper for those who don’t have much experience, and haven’t had the opportunity to find out more about it. We’ll start you off from the ground up, looking at all the aspects of RP.

Creating a Character The most important thing of all - Be Original! If someone is already using the persona of a character from HP or a name that you want is taken, I suggest just creating your own ... it is a much better experience. So how do you create a character? Start off by deciding what race your character is. Is he/she an full witch, half witch, werewolf, house elf, vela, metamorph… It’s easy to make a background for your character after you have this in place. Then you’ll need to think about the age of your character, since most characters are still members of Hogwarts, and you’ll be doing all of your Rping in your house common room, the general age range is 12-18. Once you have chosen that, you may pick a name. If you have trouble picking a name, try thinking about the details about your character’s background and comparing them to Greek mythology and folklore. Choosing a name that has mythological elements is a theme that is easy to follow.

How to use OOC OOC stands for "Out of Character" - It is basically the place where discussions about where the thread is heading, decisions about what to do, and other non-story discussions take place. If you have anything you want to say about your character, other people’s characters, and suggestions for the RP then put it in an OOC comment. OOC is not an excuse for off topic conversation and general talk! If you have something to talk to your friend about, do it through Owls, or any other instant messaging system.

One liners are our enemies! Posting one line at a time is considered SPAM! If you can’t RP more then one line or two lines consisting of three words or less, then you shouldn’t be role playing. Here are some pointers on how to avoid one line posts (if caught posting one liners you will be directed here, so avoiding this is not an option):

* Be literate!

That doesn’t mean every word has to be spelled correctly, but it does mean some effort needs to be put into what is being typed. If you feel that you are having trouble posting grammatically correct, copy your post into word processing software like Microsoft Word to check your spelling and grammar.

* Set the scene *

Your character is arriving in the common room. Is it raining or sunny outside the windows? Day or night? Is the common room cold or hot? Is there anyone already in the room, notice their body language? What are the other characters doing?

* Describe your character.

How is your character feeling at the moment? What is he/she wearing? Post each post in great detail, explain your thoughts, feelings, and senses.
