                                     Section-A                                         Marks : 20

1(a) Differentiate between active and passive filters.
(b) Mention the various applications of filters.
(c) Draw the ideal characteristics of low pass, high pass, band pass and band elimination filters.
(d) What do you mean by Network Synthesis? How this is different from Network Analysis?
(e) Discuss the shortcomming of constant K filter sections.
(f) how do you classify various filters?
(g) Discuss the merits and demerits of digital over analog filters.
(h) Explain the following terms:
Cut set and Cut set matrix.
(i) Explain the applications of graph theory.
(j) Explain where do we use attenuators.

Section-B                                          Marks:5 Each

2. A Network has

derive a circuit with the given 2(s).
3. Which of the following polynomials are Hurwitz?
    (a) s4 + 3s3 + 4s2 + 5s + 6
    (b) s6 + 1
    (c) s6 + 7s4 + 14s2 + 8.
4. Deisgn m-derived low pass filter, having a cut-off frequency of 5kHz and a design impedence of 600 ω. The
frequency of infinite attenuation is 1.25 fc.
5. Design a constant K low pass T-section filter to be terminated in 600 ω, having cut-off frequency of 3kHz. Determine:
    (i) attenuation at 6kHz.
(ii) the characteristics impedence at 2kHz.
6. Design an attenuator to operate on a characteristics resistance of 500 ω to provide an attenuation of 15 dB.

Section-C                                        Marks : 10 Each

7. Synthesis the following impedence function in Foster-1 and Cauer forms

8. (a) Explain with examples the following:
Network graph, tree of a graph and cut-set.
    (b) Show that the number of links for a graph having n nodes and b branches is b - n + 1.
    (c) For the network of following figure, draw the graph and the tree. Show the links currents on the graph and
write the tie-set schedule for the tree. Write the equation for the branch currents.

9. What is a composite filter? Design a composite high pass filter to operate into a load of 600 ohms and have a
    cut-off frequency of 1.2 kHz.
The filter is to have ane constant K-section, one m-derived section with f∞ = 1.1 kHz and suitable terminating
    half sections.
