UMM Alumni Reunion / Homecoming
UMM's Alumni Association has decided to combine the Annual Reunion/Lobster Feed with Homecoming in 2004.  This new Homecoming/Reunion will be held October 15-17, 2004 so there will be no reunion in August.  Instead of a PTP Reunion in 2004, we are encouraging you all to attend UMM's Reunion/Homecoming.

For those of you who may not have received UMM's new newsletter, this  revised event will include all the traditional reunion activities at Homecoming 2004 including recognition of honored classes, the Distinguished Alumni Award, scholarship auction and a brunch honoring the memory of Mac Sennett, President Emeritus of UMM.

In addition to the above activities, we hope to get  time and space set aside for Greek alumni to meet with their own organizations similar to the class meetings that normally occur.  Other activities planned for the Reunion/Homecoming weekend include Alumni Career Day on Friday, a parade through campus and alumni basketball.  The town of Machias is collaborating with UMM by co-sponsoring a Fall Festival the same weekend.  This festival will include such activities as a craft fair and carriage rides.

If you have ideas or questions about the Reunion/Homecoming, please contact our own Heidi Smallidge, S'86, President, UMM Alumni Association at
[email protected] or 207-244-3610.  Please help us spread the word to all UMM alumni and make this event a success.
PTP Scholarship
Another project we hope to get off the ground this year is to establish a Phi Tau Phi Scholarship fund to benefit UMM women.  Our goal is to raise enough money to start an investment account that would generate enough interest income to make an annual scholarship award to one or more deserving UMM women.

Jenifer Smith Wilson, who works at Deighan Associates in Bangor has experience in managing scholarship funds and has expressed her willingness to assist the Association in this endeavor.  We have not yet set any criteria for this scholarship.  If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund or be involved in the creation of the guidelines, send your checks and ideas to the PTP Alumni Association at the address noted at the end of this newsletter.

Depending on the contributions received and the investment options available, it may take several years to build up endowment sizeable enough to generate the income needed to award a scholarship but it can't happen at all without your support.  Please feel free to write or call with any questions or suggestions.
