Subject: lost dog in texas from california

To: Animal Angels

We are in desperate need of your assistance.  I have a dear friend who was traveling from California to the East Coast and drove through the Abilene, Texas area on January 9.  He lost his dog while driving through the area.   I know it's a long shot that you may run across him, but I had to try.

He's a male Austalian Shepherd with a tail (unusual for most Australian Shepherds). So he could be mistaken for a Border Collie.  He's mostly black with some white on his chest.  He has orangish tan and white markings on his face and legs.  He weighs about 65 lbs, is 3 years old and is named Gibson.  I filed a lost report with the Abilene Police Dept and Animal Control. I'll send you a photo in a separate email.

I don't know where you're located in relation to Abilene, but was advised that this dog could travel pretty far (in excess of 50-100 miles).  I have registered him as lost on various websites.  Please advise if you have any helpful info/advice or referrals on what we can continue to do in our search for him and if you know of any animal control depts, rescue groups, vets, etc. that we could share our info with.  I can be reached in San Diego, California at the following:

Please take this kitty home if you can.  Her guardians want to have her euthanized because she has diabetes.
This is a 2nd posting of this alert...I hope someone out there can rescue this poor baby...(original alert was posted on 12/29/2001)

Subject: Diabetic cat in New Kent, Va to be euthanised
Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2001 19:43:28 -0500 (EST)

We have a 7 year old gray female cat at our animal hospital that has been recently diagnosed as having diabetes. Her owners decided that it would be too much trouble to give Mama Kitty the necessary insulin shots daily and want her to be euthanised. We are trying to find this very sweet kitty a special home- she is too loving to be killed because she is an inconvenience to her owners! She has had bloodwork done and everything looks great-except for the diabetes. (Mama Kitty will be updated on all vaccines before she leaves the hospital if we can fnd someone to adopt her-she also comes with a bottle of insulin, syringes, and a bag of food).

Please email me at
[email protected] if you can help!
Thanks!

PLEASE CROSSPOST!
Kodi, a Bichon-Frise, is missing in New Jersey.  Please help find him.  If you know anything or have any ideas that would help, please email Renate.  Her email address is at the end of her post just before Kodi's photograph.
Kodi disappeared at 10:00 p.m. New Years Eve from Park Ridge in Bergen County, NJ.  People from that family have been gone all day looking for him going door to door, putting up fliers, visiting shelters, etc. etc.  They have contacted the police, veterinarians, groomers and so on.  There is a $1,000 reward for return and/or info of this dog - no questions asked.

Do you have any further ideas?  We looked up web sites for search and tracking dogs, but I think, these animals are only used for missing children and in criminal cases.  If we could locate a service, such a dog may be able to sniff out this little Bichon!

Please give it everything you've got.  On behalf of the dog's guardian and everyone involved in searching for this dog, we thank you very much for anything you might come up with that would help.

Thanks again.,
Renate

Little Princess in Conroe, Texas Needs a Home
I need help!  This morning while I was out running errands, I stopped at a restaurant that my fianc's and I occasionally go to.  At the front door, was a very small, frail kitty that had something wrong with it's ear.  Terry, my fianc notice that it was extremely thin, but very much a "lady".  Terry could not concentrate on anything but the kitty.  Our food came and she went out to check on the kitty.  Terry being a "cat person", went to see if it would let her pick it up.  To her horror, it's ear was almost totally torn off.  She went inside to ask if anyone knew at the restaurant if the kitty had been hurt or if they even knew it was hurt ...of course, no one knew anything about it, much less where she came from.   We are thinking she is about 6 months old.  She is very sweet and affectionate in spite of her injuries and allows Terry to rub her little injured head.  She has obviously not had a meal in quite some time and inspite of her ear being as bad as it is, still tries to rub her  little head up against Terry.  We feed her a few scraps, but Terry will not leave until we have kitty in hand and take her to the vet.  Terry could not turn her back on the little girl, so off to the vet we go. Once arriving at the vet, we explain that we have found her in the condition that she is in, that she withstood the car ride very  well not crying or fighting to get out.   The assistant looks at her and says that she is seriously injured.  The vet will not be in the office until  3:00 or 3:30 to look at her. We ask "if we pay to get her taken care of, will you find her a good home, because we have a situation that will not allow for another cat (we have a Chow and a kitty already that we have to keep separated) -  they already have three kitties that  they are trying to find homes for, so the answer is no.  We got on David's work site and sent a message to a large list explaining our situation.  We have  a few bites, but nothing concrete.  I just got off the phone with the vet to find out her situation.  She is between 4 and 8 years old (can't tell because her life has been so hard)  Her ear is torn off because she has ear mites so bad that she has mutilated her ear out of pain.  Both ears are severely infected, she has an abscess on her head due to her ears and she is consumed with fleas and ticks.  SHE DOES NOT HAVE FELINE LEUKEMIA OR FELINE AIDS OR WORMS (for some reason).  She is anemic and they believe she has lead such a hard life - her kidneys or liver may be messed up - they will know tomorrow.  What I am telling you this for is:   IF WE CAN SAVE THIS KITTY, I WANT HER TO HAVE A WARM, LOVING, CARING SAFE HOME!  I am willing to pay the vet bills to get her o.k., if someone GOOD AND KIND will adopt her.  DO YOU KNOW ANYONE.  The vet said that she is in unbelievable pain, but as sweet as she is tells that her disposition is WONDERFUL under the circumstances.

Please help me find "Princess" a home.  I named her that this afternoon after talking to the vet, because she deserves to be a "Princess", not a "feral cat".

Any help will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

David Willey and Terry Burton

St. Bernard in New York Needs A Home
Do you believe in miracles?

I do.....it's my ONLY chance. Please Help Me. I am a 5 yr. old St. Bernard.   My name is Saint and I have nowhere to go and no chance for a life-Please open your heart and help me.  I was abandoned and roaming for food and a warm place to stay. Someone brought me to a shelter, where I was treated successfully for lime disease.

Then it was found, that I have heart worm and needed treatment to survive. The shelter, where I am right now, does not have the funding to pay for my treatment.

They found a lady who want to adopt me and take care of me, but when she heard that I am a hermaphrodite, she didn't want me anymore. Now everyone thinks, I have no chance and will be euthanized. But, I WANT TO LIVE, and I still hope for a miracle that there is someone out there who would let me
love them and love me-PLEASE HELP ME! I am a great gentle loving dog, lonely and afraid. Please take a moment and send a tax-deductible donation, that will save my life to:

Animalkind, Inc.

"URGENT" Two 6-month old kittens need home
Michigan Area
I need to find a permanent home for two six-month old kittens.  They have tested positive in the first titer FIP test - which as we know means absolutely nothing.

I had an FIP cat - with all my other cats - and I didn't even know he was FIP+.  The disease didn't activate until he was eight years old - from stress, I think. After he died, the others are still fine!

Anyway, these two are six months old:

One is a dark calico - a lover and likes to groom you. The other looks like a maine coon with grey long hair and white face and legs.  They cannot be separated.  They are pals. The maine coon type has one paw with no toes but gets around just fine.

These babies are adorable!  If you would like to give them a home please email

I am writting to all of you to ask for your help.  This evening a man took my dog Tahoe.  From what I understand he was going to Kentucky somewhere between Cincinnati and Louisville I believe.  I am praying that she will get away from this man and I believe she will bolt from him if given a chance.  Please, please keep an eye open for her when people drop stray dogs off. She is a Malaumute mix weighing in at almost 50 pounds.  She looks exactly like a malamute only much smaller.  When taken, she was wearing a purplish-blue nylon collar.  Also her top k-9 tooth is broken and her teeth are worn down.  She is dog aggressive.  She is very mild tempered and likes people.  Please if you get this dog at your shelter email me.  I am willing to travel anywhere to get her back.  Please keep your eyes open and help me find my dog.

Thank you so much.
Sincerely, BreAnne Jankowsky

Cats Homeless After Animal Rescue Center Fire
Approximately 20 cats and kittens are in need of homes after a devastating fire earlier this month destroyed an animal rescue center in the Arlington area, killing dozens of other cats.

Eyewitness News' Dan Evans reported that the surviving cats and kittens are recovering from smoke inhalation, but approximately 100 were killed.

"There were dead kitties laying everywhere and it was just full of smoke," said Debbie Rambo of Purrfect Love Cat Rescue. "It was hard to keep your eyes even open."

Rambo operates a no-kill cat shelter out of her house.

She told Evans that she was returning home from getting some cats neutered when the fire started. Rambo said that she couldn't rescue many felines from the Oct. 5 fire.

Evans reported that smoke from the kitchen fire claimed at least 100 cats while firefighters were able to save roughly two dozen others.

Some that survived are learning how to walk again. They are recovering at a temporary shelter on the west side.

Rambo said that currently there isn't enough space to take in cats who are running out of time at local shelters.

"That hurts too, because some that could be saved can't be," Rambo said.

Priscilla Clark, a volunteer, is lending a hand by caring for some of the cats and trying to find donors. Some veterinarians and clinics have donated time to provide medical help.

Evans reported that most of the money to care for the cats comes directly from Debbie Rambo's pocket.

"All of their funds right now are going to medical equipment and so forth," Clark said.

Evans reported that the surviving cats that are in the best shape are up for adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of the cats, you can call (904) 781-0108.
