New York City/URGENT: Cats (16)/About To Be Evicted/9-29-01
From:
[email protected] (marcaleigh leigh-bartolo)
my friend has been trying to help a collector by fixing some of them & getting them vet care (out of her own pocket). they are extremely malnourished but lovable. even the vet felt bad & gave her food to take home to them. Monday he is being evicted & is going to turn them out to the street. we are scrambling to find them homes or foster homes- can anyone help them? i have 4 cats and my fostering room currently has a pregnant tabby (who
also will be needing a home). there are 16 or so cats and kittens, all sweet.

UPDATE
Good News!
The puppies are now safe at the Humane Society shelter.  Four of them have applications for adoption, and another was adopted by a girl working at the vet hospital that was treating his ringworm.  The other two puppies are very shy and sick, but they hope to get them well and up for adoption very soon.

Hi all ... I am sending this out as a plea for help .. we need fosters ASAP for these babies and for another litter of 5 (4 weeks old), who along with their mother, will soon have to be put down because the Animal Control where they are will be out of room. If you are in the North Texas area & can foster these babies or know someone who can, or if you would like to adopt one of them, please call Alissa at the number below or send her an e-mail. If you can make room for 5 more & their mom, please call Loreen at 817-980-3031. There is a constant need for temporary homes for displaced pets who otherwise will die through no fault of their own. Every one we can place in foster care while waiting for it's "Special Person" to adopt it makes room for one more at the sanctuary. Thanks for your help.

Just got word re cat who needs a home. Her name is Prissy; she's app 1 yr of age, has been declawed & fixed. Currently in Killeen and lady who has her must find a good home right away. Both children apparently suffering from allergies. If anyone can help or if you know of anyone who can help, please contact me right away. Could develop into a desperate situation. Killeen is in central TX in a triangle with Waco & Temple. Knowing this particular lady, this could become an emergency situation. Certainly not on the scale of the NYC disaster, but this is a life we're talking about. If anyone is interested, I will help you get in contact with her people.
Thanks & God bless all you wonderful animal people there! Please contact me if you can help.

GREAT NEWS!
The painted puppy (Bo), is being "rescued" from the Westmoreland shelter tomorrow morning by Dolores Claude, who is taking him to the Pet Care Center Veterinary Clinic in Fredericksburg VA.  After that, Bo will be on his way to AZ.
Now, we need to find transportation to get Bo from Virginia to Arizona.  If you can transport Bo even part of the way, please contact Beatrice Welles at [email protected] so we can get this puppy home.
Thanks!

To Be Euthanized Monday Morning 17 SEP/9-16-01

Jonathan and I will adopt the puppy, arrange for transportation over here, and keep him until we find a good home. BUT I need someone to physically go  over there tomorrow morning, get him out, and keep him until I can get him to  AZ.  Do you think this is possible? Please post this tonight. If someone will  foster him, we can find him a home. He will be killed tomorrow morning! He is  located in the Westmoreland County Shelter. I only got this information this  afternoon. God, can we save him? please?

Linda Phillips writes:  I am so sorry but if you are not a miracle worker there is nothing we can do for this guy.  I have tried everything I know to do.  If you can call the shelter at 804-493-0869 and tell them that you will be at the shelter to rescue this guy by Monday, you will be able to save his life.  I will tell you that his life is worth saving.  If you can make this happen I will be ever in debted to you.  I feel totally responsible for this guy being put down tomorrow (Monday).  I was totally preoccupied with the events of this past week with our country because I thought I had lost 36 of our close friends at the Pentagon but found out that they were the ones whose offices were moved.  So, I am really feeling badly about this guy who is the sweetest and most adorable guy we have had in a while.  He is big. Please if you are in the Northern Virginia area and can come to rescue this guy please call the shelter immediately and leave a message because he will be put down tomorrow morning.  Please tell Dale that you will be able to rescue R112.  You will not regret rescuing this guy, I promise you.  He is very special and needs to be rescued.  We are totally out of time.  I just pray you will be able to help this wonderful guy.I will try and get you a picture sent to you with a write up about him.
Thank you, Linda

Subject: HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

HI JAMIE;
Since I KNOW you are a cat lover, I thought you could help me out here....one of my neighbors is moving to a trailer park that will not allow pets; she has 5 cats....she is sneaking one cat in anyway; but the other four, well, she said they are going to the SPCA tomorrow where they will more than likely be put down....3 of the 4 is a mother and 2 four week old babies....I took the mom and the two babies.  One baby is orange male; the other is a very pretty calico sort of female.  Mom looks like the female baby...anyway, I only took the mom and two babies but absolutely cannot keep them and am looking for homes...can you help me?  Do you know of any one who would be interested in any or all or where I can take them?  Like a NO-KILL shelter?  I won't take them to my local SPCA as I know they will be put down...so I thought I would ask you first.  I got clawed to death trying to get the mother and babies in the house past my four dogs; they were all on my enclosed front porch; when two of my dogs slipped out there and the mother went into battle and thank God she is declawed, she slapped and growled and fought like a miniature lion; my dogs were not trying to hurt her babies but she did not know that; she saw them threatened and went ape shit....I managed to get my dogs away, put the babies in a spare room and tried to get the mother who holed up behind some boxes and growled...then she came out, I picked her up to take her to her babies in my spare room after first putting my dogs in another room so that she wouldn't go nuts again, but when she saw her babies, she went nuts anyway and I got raked by the back claws on my tomach; man that smarts....right now the three are in my spare bedroom and the mother still won't go to her babies; I am leaving them alone hoping she will after she calms down...she is watching them though.  Anyway, can you help at all??????I have to go out and get a litter box for her; I have a  neutered male and he is not happy; he seems to sense there are other cats in the house....
HELP!!!!!!!!
Thank you,
Sandra

UPDATE
GOOD NEWS!
Thanks to the efforts of a lot of caring people, over $1,100 has been donated toward Sparky's vet bills, and Sparky is safely back with his guardian, Mr. Trachina.
A Call for Help

We have a situation that will require the concerted effort of the entire community.  We received an email from Lydia Hair, a reporter from the Wise County Messenger, about a Dalmatian at a clinic in Wise county that had been brought in the middle of the night by his guardian with a severe urinary track problem that required emergency surgery.  In hindsight, the vets probably should not have done the surgery & euthanized  the dog but they are bound by ethics and knowing the vet, Dr. Bill MaGee, I don't believe he would have euthanized the dog.  That is all water under the bridge though.  The guardian, Salvador Tranchina, is a man that lives on disability and SS and was unable to pay the $1,100 bill. (it's now up to about $1,300 because of boarding charges which were not added until the animal had been there 15 days after the surgery, August 13th)  They will not release the animal until the bill is paid in full because of having been burned in the past by others.

They sent a registered letter to Mr. Tranchina saying that unless payment is received or a payment plan is set up, the dog will be euthanized.  Legally, this is their right.  I went by and met the dog last night and he's terribly stressed and not showing his best side and is difficult for the staff to handle so it's not going to be a good thing for him to stay there as long as it is going to take for this man to pay off his bill.

Umut Newberry, another reporter for the Messenger, went to Sal's home to meet him yesterday & took pictures and did an interview with him.  I also talked to him on the phone and we both came to the same conclusion.  This is a person with a big heart, good intentions but no money.  He has other dogs and takes care of them.  Their pictures are on the walls and he has albums of them.  Since he doesn't have a fence, each dog has a room in the house where they stay and Sal takes them outside to do their business and let them get exercise.

Umut is going to do a piece in the Messenger this week to see if we can raise the money from within the county to free Sparky. Animal Angels will see that all his dogs (all are male) are neutered and also provide the chainlink fencing and find someone to put it up.  We need everyone that can, to pitch in with a nice donation toward getting Sparky out of hock.  You can make checks out to:

Sparky's Fund/Bridgeport Animal Clinic or send them to:

Animal Angels/Sparky's Fund
RR 1, Box 249X
Jacksboro, Texas 76458

and we'll see that they get them.

Animal Angels will also give a tax deduction receipt to anyone that can donate $250.00 or more.  If you want to contact Umut or Lydia their phone nos. are: 940.627.5987.  Emails are:
[email protected] or [email protected]

Thanks to all of you who care so much about what happens to the animals who depend on us.

Shepherd Rescue (SASRA) had a brand new rescue dog escape from its kennel tonight 8/18/2001), approximately 6 p.m.

The dog's name is WISHBONE, 1 year old, somewhat skittish so probably is just running at this point -- very sweet dog, purebred German Shepherd wearing SASRA tags and collar.  Dog was lost in the vicinity of 309 Mill Road in  HATFIELD, PA.

Wishbone doesn't know anything or anyone in the area. If you could please crosspost this widely to other lists, we'd really appreciate it. :(

If you have information re: Wishbone PLEASE call 215-542-2716, or 215-357-4990.  Thanks much.
