In the early 1980s there were a number of bands that put up with me on stage and record. The Renegades were Manchester's first rockabilly revival band. The Things were psychedelic garage revivalists, destined to share their drummer with the Buzzcocks and Tour the country with their generous stablemates. |
| Dr Filth were 'comic charactature gothic horror' (Dickinson, 1981) and members can still be found 'in character' around Didsbury Manchester. An Occasion were a mini-supergroup, comprised of 'cherry-picked' musicians from various bands. They were offered guaranteed international success and turned it down preferring staying together to the stress of sudden fame. Then disbanded. |

As the 1980s progressed Dr Holmes ceased to work at the Hacienda Manchester and began to lose his musical roots. However, a further 'supergroup' awaited formation. The Fabulous Fur Brothers had both spoof and serious intentions, boasting two TV producers, Feature writer for the NME & other music papers, along with two members of famous Manchester bands. Unfortunately due to a death in the family the band could not continue (though part of it evolved into the Ragin' Cajuns). |
