The 15 K

0200

cold as can be
stepping off for a long and
painful journey
not knowing what is in store
walking with 60 pounds strapped on our backs
no light but the moon light from above
stuck in a dark midnight blue sky
up and down hills
struggling up mountainous hills
falling down long steep grades

0300

cold as what
I cannot describe
Fingers and toes going numb
Stress fractures in the bottom of my feet
Telling myself I must keep going

0400

where am I
I dont have a clue
Wondering are we almost to our objective
Extreme pain in my shoulder
As if someone has stuck a dull knife in
And continuously turning, pulling, and pushing
Limping on both feet about to fall to my knees
My body telling me to quit
My mind telling me momma didnt raise a quitter

0500

frozen to the bone
fallen way behind the platoon
darkness almost as thick as pea soup
cant see where I am or where I am going
reassuring myself I am almost there
got to keep going no stopping now
finally caught up to the company

0600

pulling into our objective
a sigh of relief as I drop the 60 pounds
of dead weight to the ground
still in extreme pain but satisfied
I finished my last obstacle
I can now graduate from BCT.
