| Space Camp, Blow by Blow with Excerpts from the Journal of Allison Cawrse Continued . . . Monday, July 19, 2004 11:11am CDT: Well, the person that was supposed to wake us up this morning at 7:30 didn't. Then they came in at like 7:50 asking why we weren't up yet and that we had ten minutes to get downstairs. That was a nice wake up. Thank goodness Esais is really nice, understanding and lenient. He didn't mind but we got to breakfast late. The line was clear back to the TCF. After breakfast we went to the Aviation Challenge camp and did the helio-dunk. I did it once, didn't want to get my hair dirty in the lake water cause I washed it last night. I also didn't want to get my swimsuit dirty because I haven't had scuba yet. I think that's tomorrow. So Esais gave us a one hour break to relax and get cleaned up. It's nice to rest once and a while. We have no time for that with Meredith. We got in fairly late last night and since I washed my hair in the shower I took a long time, I had to hurry fast to get in bed quickly. Sounds like we're doing our Charlie and Delta mission training today. I'll look forward to that, I like mission training. 10:25pm CDT: Ahh, lights out again, writing by the desk light. Well, we had Charlie and Delta mission training today. For Charlie I was PROP in MOCR, didn't much like it. I couldn't just read lines, I had to monitor lots of stuff and make things up as I went, I hated it. For Delta mission I was MS1 on the orbiter and got to be on the Canada arm. That was lots of fun. I think though that I like being on station the best. We saw Dr. Von Tiesenhausen again, very cool, just as last time. His speech was pretty much the same. A few things changed, he talked about the rovers and some updated info, can't remember what it all was though. We had rocket building and our rocketry briefing too. The briefing was cool, of course, anything with fire is cool, lol. Building rockets was fun. I really like my rocket. I think I will launch it this time and I bet it does really well. I got my flight suit and it fits lots better than the one I had last year. Tomorrow we have team pictures and we start out missions. Then I have scuba!! YAY!! Tuesday, July 20, 2004 10:30pm CDT: Overall it was a really fun day. We had three missions, Alpha, Bravo and Charlie, we had lots of fun but did really bad. According to Ace, we're in last place for our mission scores, but we're having so much fun I really don't care. Ace yelled at us about this, I don't care how bad we're doing, we're having loads of fun. We had some pretty boring briefings today. I ended up getting a headache in radio astronomy that lasted through Russian space history. We didn't learn to much in Russian space history, but the end was very entertaining. We had a sort of game to see who won the space race. All of Goddard was Russia, and Von Braun was the US. We, Russia, ended up with more cards, therefor more points, so we should have won. Then in the end we had one speaker from each team try to persuade everyone that they were the winner. Stix was up for us, it was hilarious!!!! He started talking in a Russian accent and completely bashed the US. That was probably the best part! During scuba, I was selected to do the EDM dive. I'm sooo excited!!!! I was THE ONE selected to dive, Brandon is the backup incase I can't dive for some reason or I have a problem. I'm really REALLY looking forward to another dive. At the end of my dive today I was thinking that I'd probably never be able to do that again, and now I know I can!!! I can't wait!!!! So the rest of the day, well, nothing very exciting happened. We had our solar physics briefing, orbital mechanics, Russian space history, and radio astronomy. We were suppose to have night telescope but it was canceled because all the good stuff to look at had just disappeared behind the trees. I'm really disappointed because we didn't get to do that last year either. They were just putting the telescope away when we walked out. That's when Ace yelled at us. |
