| Space Camp, Blow by Blow with Excerpts from the Journal of Allison Cawrse Continued . . . Saturday, July 17, 2004 9:30am CDT: I could say rise and shine, but GET UP! seems more appropriate. I slept better tonight though not nearly enough. I look somewhat awake now, all dressed, hair brushed and face washed. I'm hungry, time for breakfast. 10:10am CDT: Back from breakfast. I had apple jacks, mild, apple juice and a bagel with grape jelly. I had to change cloths cause I was freezing. The air conditioners make everything cold. I had on shorts and a t-shirt, now I have on jeans and a sweatshirt. I'm tired now, so I'm going back to sleep. 9:50pm CDT: Well, in my room, in pjs. What a busy day! Mom and dad wanted to tour the park this morning so we came and walked around until it was time for me to check in. I was the very first. I got the bed I wanted and all the girls I'm rooming with are on my team and seem really nice. I can tell that this year is going to be better than the last. Matt's also on my team again. So far today we had orientation, team time where we played "I have never . . ." and mission/position briefings. We played "nuke um" in the rec. field quite a bit and this evening we saw lots of fire flies. For dinner we had, or I had, spaghetti, green beans, a roll and cookies. I really like my night consoler, Meredith. We get to meet out day consoler tomorrow. *five minutes till lights out* I really don't want to go home, I just want to stay here. I really miss talking to Daniel, John and Hannah at night, but I still want to stay. Well time to get to sleep, goodnight. What a great day!! Sunday, July 18, 2004 10:30pm CDT: Wow, today was really busy. We met our day consoler, Esais. He's really funny, I'm really going to like him. He has a really good sense of humor and is much more relaxed than Meredith. While the pilots were gone, he let the mission specialists go on the MAT for as long as we wanted. Moses stayed on for two minutes, he didn't look all the best afterwards, lol. We also made airplanes. Ours was pretty simple, just a regular folded paper air plane. We ended up calling it the bullet. Ours would have gone the farthest except on other group made theirs really heavy and just threw it across the room, ours actually flew. I made it and was very proud, lol. We had both Alpha and Bravo mission training. For Alpha mission I'm CATO in mission control, a new position they had since everything changed. All I really had to do was get faxes and read lines, didn't have to look at my computer screen hardly at all. For Bravo mission I'll be mission scientist on the ISS. That seemed pretty easy, that's the position I'd like to be in for the EDM. I really hope I can get it. I get to do an experiment and lots of checklists, which are easy. Though it would have been easier if Ace had told me what he was doing. I got so lost. I had to keep asking him what checklist he was on and if he had done the one before it first. He's station commander and didn't act much like a commander should. Oh well, I hope the missions go better than the training. After we finished that we all stood there in the ISS and just talked. I can't even say all the stuff we talked about, what we wanted to do, ways to become an astronaut, Bush's space plan, what would work and what wouldn't, we just stood there and talked for like 45 minutes. We got to tour around the museum today as well. Ahh, the museum is so awesome. They have the Liberty Bell 7 on display, so I could see the real thing. That was awesome. You could see the painted crack on it and lots of things that they recovered. It was amazing. Other things we did today was ride Space Shot and see the Imax movie Straight Up which was about helicopters. Space Shot was really fun. Esais took us out and gave us the option of Space Shot or G-Force, Kristin and I went on Space Shot. Just as we got on it started to sprinkle and by the time we finished it was a little harder so we ran back to G-Force to catch up with the rest and as we were running we had a huge cloud burst. We were all soaked when we got inside so we just hung around the Blast Off Caf while we waited it out. I had some Dip n Dots which were good, I hadn't had them last year, so it was nice to try them. So overall I guess it was a pretty good day. Busy, but good. |
