| Space Camp, Blow by Blow with Excerpts from the Journal of Allison Cawrse Thursday, July 15, 2004 9:00pm PDT: We made it to the hotel after an extremely long car trip. I can only imagine what the plane will be like tomorrow. *rolls eyes* We had one trip back home for dad to get his hat, then we actually made it on the road. I just sat there and stared out the window most of the time. The other part of the time I slept or helped read directions. We had a somewhat hard time finding our way around in Portland. Ugh, we get a wake up call tomorrow morning at 4:45!! Then head to the airport at 5:30!! Not exactly my idea of fun. Now mom is complaining about forgetting to bring granola bars. I bet we get breakfast on the plane tomorrow so I'm not to worried. The breakfast we got last year was pretty darn good. Friday, July 16, 2004 5:00am PDT: There should seriously be a law against having to wake up this early.*tries to wake up and stomach growls* 6:10am PDT: Made it to the airport. I'm just kind of sitting here, looking at our plane. I'm still hungry. Mom has started reading Angels and Demons and Dad is looking out the window. We're worried that the cameras we got may not be any good because we didn't get them hand checked, they were sent through the x-ray machine. We gave all the cameras to Dad so he could get them hand checked, but he didn't, they all were sent though. So mom's not to happy cause they might not develop, and I guess I'm a bit bummed, but oh well, these things happen. My head hurts a lot. Lack of sleep and hunger don't mix, I couldn't get to sleep last night. as to the plane ride, not in the journal: I tried to sleep most of the way. TRIED, the plane was very uncomfortable. My neck hurt a lot when we landed. I worked on reading Les Misrables and got fairly far, not far into the book, cause it's so darn big, but I read a lot. We didn't get the nice breakfast like last year. It was all free last year, not this year. We got a menu and ordered from that. Mom and Dad both got a cinnamon raison bagel and I got a fruit plate, which was really good. We were in the middle of the plane so no window seat, oh well. 8:55pm CDT: Ugh, I'm ready to be at camp, away from everyone getting lost. Yes, we got seriously lost on the way to the motel. We were trying to follow the directions, and yes, they were good directions, but only useful if you follow them and listen to them. We got out on the wrong part of the airport, so that was the first mistake, then I tried to read my mom the directions and instead of listening to me exactly, she decided she knew better than them and made her own up, getting us extremely lost as it got later and later. Then she and Dad were upset because we had "bad directions" but they would have been find if she had followed them. So we're driving around Huntsville completely lost, pull into a parking lot and call the Fairfield asking for directions to the place. Well, they give us directions but we're still lost, we then end up pulling into a Wal-mart parking lot and ask a lady there where to find it. She gave us much better directions and we found it without a problem. So now we're getting ready to go to dinner. Sounds like we're going to walk over to Ihop which is right next door to the motel. 11:10pm CDT: Well I guess I should catch up. My meals today haven't been the greatest in the world so I'm looking forward to camp. I remember getting pretty good food there. At first I didn't want to leave, cause I knew that as soon as I got here I wouldn't want to go home. I was right. I don't want to go back. I love being her so much and I can't wait for camp. That feels like home too. I'm, as Mom and Dad said, "in my element." If it wasn't for not having my own bed, pillow, bathroom and access to a washer and dryer and computer, I would stay. True I'd really miss everyone but everything here is just so . . .me. |
