The Morlock Massacre
Remy Le Beau has always had his secrets, but none so shameful and horrible (and some say contrived) to himself then his part in the Morlock Massacre.

When Sinister offered to save the 'dying' Bella Donna, he did so on the condition that Remy lead the Marauders into the tunnels of the Morlocks. I believe that Gambit had investigated this tunnels prior to this point, which of course is why Sinster needed him to lead the Marauders into them in the first place.

The above reason for Remy agreeing is pure speculation on my part, and the reasons for it are mentioned in the previous section. Moving on for whatever reason, Remy agreed, as the last thing he'd ever to for Sinister, but indeed the most costly.

The Morlock Massacre (which in Marvel Comics took place like ten years before Gambit was even created), hinted that the Marauders had followed a Morlock into the tunnels. It possible however this Morlock Tommy was killed and Gambit who was far more sleathly continued leading the Maraduers.

In UXM #350 Rogue, after kissing Gambit (as orderd by Eric the Red) relates Remy's total horror at what he unleashed. She continues to say Remy tried to stop the attack, but is nearly killed be Sabretooth.

Despite the fact he was probably bleeding to death, and was probably presumed dead by the Marauders, Gambit saved the Morlock child who 'had bones stickin' every which way out of her face', Remy says he didn't know how she was, but did know her name Sarah. Prior to the trial in UXM #350, when the negation of their powers is causing Rogue to have flashbacks of memories of people she once absorbed,  she flashbacks to the moment after Remy rescues Sarah. He tries to comfort the child, and takes personal responsibilty for the deaths, although he didn't physically kill anyone.

Remy presumely takes Sarah close to where Callisto and the X-Men are and leaves Sarah there, she is later transported with the other surviviors to the Hill by Mikhail Rasputin.

Remy is not seen by anyone and disappears, considering the extent of his injuries he either sought medical treatement or passed out and was taken by a caring citizen to a hospital or something. Unless he has a healing factor (which he doesn't) he would have had to have SOME treatment.

Remy says during his trial that he had 'sickened m'self so much I almos' died there, too. Sometimes...wish I HAD.' He also says that rescuing Sarah was all he had been able to do and says ' 'HE' didn't know. Thought it might be somethin' illegal...didn't know it would be somethin' so...AWFUL.'

Gambit wasn't innocent by any means, he knew something illegal may have happened, but he was not the murder 'Eric the Red' Magneto made him out to be. Remy killed no-one, but nonetheless held himself responisible for what was other people's actions.

Beyond that it is my opinion the Morlock Massacre would have happend even if Remy had refused to help Sinister. The man was capable of gather the Marauders and getting into the tunnels without any need for Gambit. Sinister's use of Remy was once again an example of his contempt and manipulation of others for his own evil ambitions. Sinister's hatreds and arrogance almost lead to the destruction of a mutant who was at heart a decent person.

If the little entry at the back of Gambit #1 (of the ongoing series) is anything to go on, Remy was basically a failure because he had such high moral standards, which is a far cry from the supposed murdering nautre Erik the Red/Magneto accuses him of (as if he's anyone to talk).
